DCCC Launches Robo Call Against Fitzpatrick

Today, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee launched robocalls attacking Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick’s (R-Bucks) votes against the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

The script from the call reads as follows:

“For three years, your Congressman has been obsessed with one thing. Not jobs. Not the economy. Not opportunity.

Can you guess what he’s done instead?

Nearly 50 times, Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick and Republicans in Congress have voted to repeal or undermine the Affordable Care Act – not to fix it. Congressman Fitzpatrick would take us back to a time when insurance companies could do whatever they wanted to raise rates, drop coverage and deny care. You don’t want to go back to a time when hardworking families had to declare bankruptcy because of health care costs.

Congressman Fitzpatrick should be focusing on STRENGTHENING the economy. Instead He’s trying to take away YOUR health care protections. Tell him to get his priorities straight. Call Congressman Fitzpatrick at (202) 225-4276.”

Fitzpatrick is the only target of this call in Pennsylvania; the calls start today and will continue through the week. The DCCC says the timing is to commemorate the three year anniversary of Republicans trying to repeal the Affordable Care Act with 50 different votes that would dismantle the law.

“Congressman Fitzpatrick and House Republicans’ singular obsession with repealing the Affordable Care Act is one of the reasons that this Republican Congress is more reviled than at any point in modern history,” said Emily Bittner of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “If Congressman Fitzpatrick and House Republicans’ repeal plan succeeds, the consequences would be devastating for the people of Pennsylvania. Congressman Fitzpatrick wants to leave Pennsylvanians at the mercy of insurance companies who would have free rein to hike their rates and deny coverage – even as Americans want the law improved, not repealed.”

As it turns out, Fitzpatrick has actually proposed legislation to keep the consumer protection parts of Obamacare.

“The fact is that the law is having a real and devastating effect on Pennsylvania families and small businesses,” NRCC spokesman Ian Prior said “Congressman Fitzpatrick is working to make sure that the law doesn’t suffocate economic growth and prevent Pennsylvania families from being able to afford the healthcare plans that best suit their needs.”

In the general election, Fitzpatrick will face the winner of the Democratic primary between veteran Kevin Strouse and scientist Shaughnessy Naughton. Strouse is the official DCCC candidate, while Naughton is supported by Emily’s List.
