Dean Decides Against Seeking Montco Commissioner Seat

Madeleine-DeanMadeleine Dean is content to stay in the State House.

The State Rep. has opted against running for the newly vacated Montgomery County Commissioner position, and instead will remain with her current job representing Pennsylvania’s 153rd district.

Rep. Dean, whose district represents parts of Abington and Upper Dublin, issued the following statement: “I was excited to hear of Leslie’s appointment as Secretary of Transportation and am looking forward to working with her and Governor Wolf to bring Act 89 investment dollars to the district.”

Dean added that she is dedicated to much of the work she has already started as State Representative, including a severance tax on Marcellus Shale gas extraction to make up for shortfalls in the education budget.

The seat is being vacated by Commissioner Leslie Richards. Last week, Richards was chosen by Governor-Elect Tom Wolf to be his Transportation Secretary.

  1. Whatever office Rep. Dean serves in, she will bring her excellent work ethic, high integrity and dedication to public service.

  2. She would be excellent as a commissioner, but may be able to do more in Harrisburg.

  3. The court will appoint whomever Josh Shapiro and Marcel Groen ask them to. Nobody knew Leslie Richards before she ran with Shapiro and it will likely be the same with the person chosen to succeed her. Montco Dems are obviously hoping to fill this seat with another woman. Here’s a suggestion — take a look at ex-Obama admin official Elizabeth Vail.
