DeFoor Wins Auditor General Race

The Republicans have flipped a statewide row office.

Republican Tim DeFoor, a Dauphin County Controller, has defeated Democrat Nina Ahmad, a former Deputy Mayor of Philadelphia, in the race for the Auditor General. DeFoor leads Ahmad by 4 points as the AP called the race on Friday morning.

DeFoor is the first Republican since 1992 to win the race for Auditor General and becomes the first person of color in Pennsylvania to win a statewide row office.

The Auditor General’s race is the first statewide race called in Pennsylvania. Attorney General Josh Shapiro currently holds a 3.6 point lead over GOP challenger Heather Heidelbaugh, while incumbent Treasurer Joe Torsella trails GOP challenger Stacy Garrity by 1.68 points. Former Vice President Joe Biden has also taken the lead over President Donald Trump in Pennsylvania.

  1. Congratulations to Timothy L. DeFoor, 50th Auditor General of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

  2. My first vote ever for a Libertarian. Nina was completely unqualified and I won’t vote for any GOP candidate. The Libertarian candidate did much better in this race than the other 3 state-wide races with a little over 3%.

  3. Dems better think twice about Gov race in two years. If anything Pa is red all over except for certain pockets and if an under performing President like Trump who botched covid can run a tight race in Pa says a lot about how unwise it would be to nominate a Progressive like the Lt Governor. Dems need a centrist to win Gov and a Berne clone will not prevail in the General in Nov. Josh Shapiro offers a better chance to win for Gov in 2022.

      1. I am sure Josh has better things to do than post here. Dude I ain’t Josh just a supporter and voter of the good Atty Gen. But I do think Josh would be a better candidate than Fetterman for Gov.

  4. Poor Nina. She must feel completely humiliated. Spent millions of her husbands money in a race she didn’t belong in bringing no practical experience, only to turn over the office to the Republicans who hadn’t held in 30 years. She must feel ridiculous, with republicans laughing at her and Dems rolling their eyes at her.

    1. Actually the last Republican to hold the office up until now was Barbara Hafer 20 years ago. After that there were three Democrats in a row (Bob Casey Jr, Jack Wagner, and Eugene DePasquale.) Hafer has since become a Democrat.

  5. A black person voting Republican is like a chicken voting for Colonel Sanders.—JC Watts Sr His son JC Jr is a former NFL player and black GOP Congressman from Oklahoma.

  6. I honestly wasn’t following this race and only read Mr. DeFoor’s bio in recent days. He could be a hidden gem for Harrisburg and I wish him a successful tenure as Auditor General.
