Here at Politics PA, we want to make sure that you – the voter – are aware of who is running for elected office and where they stand.

Today, we take a look at the candidates for office in Delaware County.

Representative in the General Assembly – 163rd District

County Council

Council is responsible for all legislative and administrative functions of the County government. Although Council has overall responsibility for all action of County departments, the Executive Director, a County Council appointee, is directly responsible for the operations of certain departments as outlined in the Home Rule Charter or Administrative Code, or as assigned by the Executive Director and the County Clerk.

District Attorney

The mission of the Delaware County District Attorney’s Office is to protect our diverse community through the fair and ethical pursuit of justice, to safeguard the rights of the victims of crime, and the rights and reputations of the innocent. We will accomplish our mission by vigorously and professionally prosecuting those who violate our laws and by working cooperatively with law enforcement and community leaders to improve Delaware County.

Magisterial District Judge (MDJ)

Magisterial District Judges handle all traffic cases, other minor criminal cases and civil cases involving amounts up to $12,000. District Judges also set bail and conduct preliminary hearings in misdemeanor and felony criminal cases to determine if the cases should be dismissed or transferred to the Court of Common Pleas for further proceedings.

Magisterial District Judges, as officers of the Pennsylvania Unified Judicial System, may administer oaths and affirmations and take acknowledgements. They also have authority to perform marriages.
