Dent Ducks Debate

Dent opposed funding for job training programs like the ones at Northampton Community College and now he won’t debate there
BETHLEHEM, PA. – Today Bethlehem Mayor John Callahan was informed that Congressman Dent will not participate in a debate at Northampton Community College. Northampton CC has been a critical local resource for retraining workers for the new jobs coming into the Lehigh Valley and was recently named as one of the 50 best Community Colleges by Washington Monthly. In 2005, Congressman Dent voted against job training funding for veterans and workers that lost their jobs due to outsourcing. Then in 2006, Dent voted for the single largest cut to student aid in history. It’s not surprising that he doesn’t want to talk about these issues at Northampton Community College.
“Congressman Dent voted against job training funding for Veterans and workers that had their jobs outsourced before voting for the single largest cut to student aid in history and that’s why he won’t debate at Northampton Community College,” said Mayor John Callahan. “Debates are critical to our democracy and I call on Congressman Dent to change his position by joining me and Tea Party candidate Jake Towne in a discussion of the issues facing the Lehigh Valley at Northampton Community College.”

  1. Ummmm…has it occurred to anyone that Rep. Dent just might not be AVAILALBLE the evening of the debate at the community college? There’s a candidate forum in Reading this coming Wednesday night, for which Rep. Dent (as well as Rep. Jim Gerlach) is ALSO not available….because the HOUSE IS IN SESSION. I know that doing one’s job is no excuse for not doing what one’s opponent wants, but, really? Dent’s not coming to Northampton Community College because he doesn’t LIKE IT???? Callahan’s desperation is showing big time.
