Dermody Fends Off Challenge from Sturla

DermodyRepublicans won and decided to change leadership while Democrats lost and chose to stick with theirs.

House Minority Leader Frank Dermody (D-Allegheny) was re-elected by his caucus today despite a challenge from Lancaster Rep. Mike Sturla.

Sturla was disappointed in the loss of eight House seats by the Democrats in last week’s election and announced his intention to challenge Dermody last week.

Rep. Dermody, however, was able to win another term as leader.

According to Rep. Dan Miller, after the count, Rep. Sturla released his voters to make Dermody’s re-election unanimous

  1. In what was supposed to have been the year of the Democratic woman, you have to congratulate them on 1 thing. They managed to get a single woman into the leadership group again. That’s one more than they had a year ago!

  2. Democrats rewarding failure? I’m shocked, shocked!! Can any Democrat in the House go on the record and say why they voted for Dermody? Or are they the corrupt, cowardly clowns this “vote” showed them to be?

Your ability to guess who I am is as bad as your ability to count votes. I don’t work for Dermody. I don’t work for the House Democrats leadership. I don’t work for the House Democrats at all. I have never received any money from any House Democrats. If you would have read my post, I said that I don’t care who wins between Dermody and Sturla.

I’ve known Dermody and Sturla for 20 years. But I know how to count. Obviously you don’t. House Democrats in the room (one for Dermody and one for Sturla) told me Dermody was leading 43-21 when they stopped counting because Dermody had more than a majority. Like I said in the other post, Sturla never had close to 55 votes (he never had more than 25-30). I was wrong about it being close, it was a blowout. You and your sources need to take remedial math again.

I’m sure there are many differences between us but one is that I know how to count (and you don’t), a second is that I have good sources (and you don’t), and I don’t accuse others who know what they are talking about and predict the correct result of being paid by the other side (you do – it’s what people do when they are losing).

Like I said, I don’t care who won, I just know what I’m talking about.

  4. Since Rendell left office, the PA Dems have been under all Allegheny County Control: State Party Chair, Senate Minority Leader, and House Minority Leader.

Not a single Democrat east of the Susquehanna River holds any type of prominent leadership position right now. Even Wolf technically hails from west of the river.

If you are wondering why the PA Dems are in such rough shape nowadays, now you know.
