DeSales University/WFMZ Poll: Wild 54, Scheller 36

Rep. Susan Wild (D-Lehigh) has a double digit lead over GOP challenger Lisa Scheller in the race for the 7th Congressional District, according to this latest poll.

The DeSales University/WFMZ poll of likely voters in the 7th District released on Tuesday afternoon shows Wild leading Scheller by 18 points, 54%-to-36%

Former Vice President Joe Biden also holds a double digit lead in the key swing district in this latest poll. 54% polled said they’d vote for Biden, while 39% said they’d vote for Trump.

Sec. Hillary Clinton narrowly bested Trump in these congressional boundaries in 2016.

Trump’s approval rating is also under water in the district. 40% said they approved of Trump’s job performance, while 54% said they disapproved.

45% of those polled who said they voted for someone other than Clinton or Trump in 2016 are now backing Biden, while 20% of those voters say they are supporting Trump for the upcoming election.

A majority of likely voters polled approve of how Gov. Tom Wolf has handled the coronavirus pandemic, while Trump’s handling of the matter trails behind. 59% polled said they approve of how Wolf has handled the pandemic, while 35% said they approve of Trump’s handling of the coronavirus.

This poll, surveying 466 likely voters in the 7th District, conducted between Oct 3-10, has a margin of error of +/-4.3%.

This is the second public poll released for the congressional race in the Lehigh Valley. On October 1, Morning Call/Muhlenberg College released a poll that showed Wild leading Scheller by 13 points, 52%-to-39%, among likely voters in the district. Biden led Trump in that Morning Call/Muhlenberg College by 7 points, 51%-to-44%, among likely voters in the 7th District.

FiveThirtyEight doesn’t have a grade for DeSales University/WFMZ polling, while they give Muhlenberg College polling an overall A+ grade.

The Cook Political Report and Sabato’s Crystal Ball have the race in PA7 as Likely Democratic, while Inside Elections rates it as a safe seat for Wild.

  1. What are Speaker Bryan Cutler and Republican House Majority Leader Kerry Benninghoff doing to remove criminal child abuser GOP State Rep Aaron Bernstine?

In one video obtained by the USA TODAY Network, Aaron Bernstine, R-10, New Beaver, Lawrence County, is behind the camera, but his hand is shown holding a cigar and offering it to his son.

When the young boy takes a puff, Bernstine tells him to “hit it harder” and “breathe in,” followed by a woman’s voice saying, “No.”

A second video has Bernstine again off camera asking his son, “What are we going to chase in Nashville?” The boy replies in a whisper, “Cadillac p—ssy,” using a vulgar term for vagina.

  2. Even if you allow for the margin of error this is a landslide for Wild. This district is the result of fairness and not a pretzel shaped disaster drawn up by Pennsylvania State Senate Republicans and Pa State House Republicans.

  3. Nobody is more treacherous to America than Donald Trump, the lap dog of Putin, the Russian dictator.
