Did Shapiro Make A Budget Deal With Senate Republicans?

The biggest question around the state Capitol in Harrisburg right now is “did he or didn’t he”?

We are talking about Gov. Josh Shapiro and whether he agreed to a deal with Senate Republicans that included $100 million in funding for “lifeline scholarships” or the Pennsylvania Award for Student Success (PASS) program in the $45.5 million plan.

The Senate GOP leadership says yes, Shapiro reneged on his word.

The governor says he never agreed to such a deal.

Who’s right? We want to know what you think.

Our unscientific poll is open until midnight on Monday.

Do you believe Gov. Shapiro made a deal with Senate Republicans to support the school voucher program proposal?

  • Yes. He reneged on his word. (71%)
  • Yes. But it was contingent on not impacting school district funding. (16%)
  • No. A deal was never made. (13%)

  1. Sounds like Shapiro made the deal, to betray public education (and reward his school choice PAC donors) without getting approval from the Dems first.
He thought he could backstab the Dems again. However, he was almost no help getting the Dems the majority, so they don’t owe him the salt off a pretzel.
