EXCLUSIVE: Stollsteimer Discusses AG Campaign

Jack-StollsteimerAs Attorney General Kathleen Kane fights her criminal charges, Jack Stollsteimer is building a strong foundation for his campaign to take over her office.

Stollsteimer, a former federal prosecutor for the Eastern District of PA, said he had been exploring challenging Kane for the Democratic Party’s nomination next spring, though – barring something of a political miracle – it seems his competition will now come from elsewhere.

Candidates for the Office of the Attorney General will seek to position themselves as anti-Kane candidates over the next 15 months, as her tenure in the office has been tumultuous at best.

The process of cleaning up the OAG “begins at the front office,” with an attorney general who is an experienced, veteran prosecutor, Stollsteimer said. The next chief law enforcement officer of the state must “be able to manage the employees and have the employees respect them,” he continued.

Stollsteimer hit out at Kathleen Kane, saying “[she’s] refusing to take responsibility for the acts she’s committed as Attorney General.”

“You have to start by restoring the public’s faith in the office,” Stollsteimer said. “It’s been described [by an ex-OAG employee] as an unholy mess under Kathleen Kane’s leadership.”

While he understands Kathleen Kane will dominate the news this fall, Stollsteimer emphasized the importance of the races for the State Supreme Court, where seven candidates will vie for three seats.

The Haverford resident will try to keep Kane from overshadowing his campaign by highlighting his platform – which includes protecting children, tackling violent crime in cities and standing up for PA consumers – and his legal experience.

As well as his stint as an assistant U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of PA, Stollsteimer has served as the Deputy Chief Counsel and director of the Bureau of Unclaimed Property at the PA Treasury Department. Stollsteimer also spent three years working as the Safe Schools Advocate for Philadelphia schools to provide reports on school violence and give recommendations to the state legislature.

  1. Ask any employee of Treasury’s Unclaimed Property what they think of Stollsteimer. The guy was a mini Hitler. NOT what we need in the AG’s office

  2. “You don’t just parachute in and within two or three months pick up political and campaign finance support from Philadelphia,” asserted Alan Kessler, a Duane Morris attorney in a 2013 Philadelphia Magazine interview. “But that’s exactly what she did.” Kessler was referring to embattled AG Kathleen Kane. Of course, The Morning Call revealed that Alan Kessler has now received a subpoena from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). And Kessler has been remarkably silent since…

  3. The “unholy mess” comment came from an employee of the Governor’s office (and a former AG employee).
