Fattah Commends Injunction to End DADT Enforcement as “Welcome and Long Overdue”
 
WASHINGTON D.C., Oct. 12, 2010 – Congressman Chaka Fattah (D-PA), who voted in the House of Representatives this year to end the “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” policy, issues the following statement commending the ruling by United States District Court Judge Virginia Phillips in San Diego to enjoin and halt enforcement of DADT in U.S. armed forces:
 
“The worldwide injunction issued today by Judge Virginia Phillips to stop enforcement of the ‘Don’t Ask Don’t Tell’ policy concerning gay and lesbian members of our military is welcome and long overdue. Judge Phillips is to be commended for her jurisprudence as well as her courage. The ruling stands on sound Constitutional grounds, citing free speech and due process violations by the government in barring openly gay and lesbian members from the armed services. She also cites the need to end ‘Don’t Ask Don’t Tell’ as a critical step toward improving military morale, readiness and recruiting at a time when our men and women in uniform are fighting distant battles. This is a good day for all Americans and for the advancement of our armed services in the 21st Century.”
