Fetterman Raises $2.5 Million in Q2

Lt. Gov. John Fetterman’s U.S. Senate campaign records another multi-million dollar fundraising haul for the second consecutive quarter.

On Thursday morning, Fetterman announced that his campaign raised more than $2.5 million in the 2nd quarter of 2021.

“I am so grateful that our movement is continuing to grow,” said Fetterman. “To have received over 231,000 individual contributions since we launched this campaign is truly humbling. Gisele and I are just overwhelmed with gratitude. Thank you.”

According to the press release from Fetterman’s campaign, he received over 91,300 donations, including contributions from over 31,100 first-time donors in the second quarter. The release added that 99% of contributions have been donations under $200, with an average donation of $28.

The press release from Fetterman’s campaign did not mention how much he spent from the beginning of April to the end of June and how much cash on hand his campaign had entering the beginning of July.

Fetterman, who launched an exploratory committee for the statewide office in January and formally joined the race in February, raised slightly under $4 million last quarter

He spent $2.1 million in the first quarter and entered April with $1.9 million cash on hand. His $3.9 million Q1 haul is more than any other Democratic candidate that quarter.

Fetterman has now raised more than $6.5 million since launching his campaign.

While Fetterman’s Q2 haul is currently the largest of any Democrat in the race, he’s no longer the lone member of his party to raise over $1 million in a quarter.

Montgomery County Commissioner Val Arkoosh announced on Wednesday that her campaign raised over $1 million in the 2nd quarter and entered July with $625,000 cash on hand.

Dr. Kevin Baumlin, the chief of emergency and urgent care services at Pennsylvania Hospital, who raised over $360,000 in the 2nd quarter, is the only other Democrat vying for the seat to announce his Q2 fundraising totals.

State Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta (D-Philadelphia) raised the second most of any Democrat in the 1st quarter by raising just under $375,000 and entering April with over $215,000 cash on hand. He has not announced his campaign’s second quarter fundraising numbers yet.

The 2022 Democratic race to succeed outgoing Sen. Pat Toomey includes several other candidates as well.

In addition to Arkoosh, Baumlin, Fetterman, and Kenyatta, former Norristown Borough Council President John McGuigan is also in the race, while state Sen. Sharif Street (D-Philadelphia) filed a statement of candidacy with the Federal Elections Commission for U.S. Senate and formally announced his exploratory committee in April.

Rep. Conor Lamb (D-Allegheny), who is reportedly weighing a run for Senate, raised $410,000 in 2021’s first quarter and entered April with $1.1 million cash on hand.

According to the FEC website, Brandaun Dean, Larry Johnson, Alexandria Khalil, Kyle Norton, and Alan Shank have also filed statements of candidacy for the Democratic primary.

  1. I keep thing that Big John is the overall best candidate for the general election against any Republican, but Lamb would be more appealing to siphon off a few more Republican votes. If Fetterman and Lamb split the same base votes in the primary, that opens a lane for Kenyatta to win big in Philly and hold on to come out on top. I fear in a general election Kenyatta would be the weakest of the 3, especially outside of Philadelphia.

    1. Agree, but Kenyatta is still an incredibly weak candidate in the primary. I think it’s Val’s lane that opens up more.

      1. Kenyatta will be the darling of the woke mob. He checks almost all the boxes: Black, gay, young. The trifecta!!!
