Fetterman Sworn In As Junior Senator

John Fetterman swearing in as U.S. Senator

John Fetterman, the former mayor of Braddock and lieutenant governor of the Commonwealth, was sworn in today as the junior United States senator from Pennsylvania.

He becomes the 54th U.S. Senator in the history of the Commonwealth and gives Pennsylvania two Democratic-elected senators for the first time since Joe Guffey and Francis Myers held the seats in 1945-47.

Fetterman, 53, defeated Republican Mehmet Oz in a campaign that drew the eyes of the nation in a race that was among the most-expensive in the country.

Known for his sartorial style of hoodies, gym shorts and tattoos on his forearm, Fetterman brings an imposing figure to Washington as he stands 6-foot-8. He opted for the more formal style for the ceremony, but at least one Fetterman carried on the family tradition.

Fetterman replaces Sen. Pat Toomey who did not seek reelection.
