First Obama Campaign Ad to Air in PA (Watch Video)

The general election ad wars are officially on in Pennsylvania. Barack Obama’s campaign rolled out this 60-second spot, called “Go,” a broad summary of the President’s re-election argument.

The commercial starts with a collage of dire news casts from 2008 about the recession. It goes on to detail the bragging points of Obama’s presidency: the auto industry recovery, the death of Osama bin Laden, the drawdown of troops in Iraq, and private sector job creation.

“We’re not there yet…it’s still too hard for too many,” says a narrator. “But we’re coming back. Because America’s greatness comes from a strong middle class.  Because you don’t quit. And neither does he.”

It’s very reminiscent of another recent ad: Clint Eastwood’s Super Bowl spot for Chrysler, which was accused of being pro-bailout.

Republicans hit back against the ad, which seeks to identify the nation’s economic woes as predating Obama’s inauguration.

“For someone whose campaign slogan is ‘forward,’ President Obama spends a lot of time looking backward and blaming others for the state of the American economy,” said RNC Chair Reince Preibus. “While Obama may want you to forget he’s been president for the past three and a half years, the fact that his policies have wreaked havoc on the middle class from high unemployment, high energy and higher education costs won’t be forgotten.”

In addition to PA, the spot will air in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio and Virginia. Obama’s campaign did not disclose the size or scope of the buy.

  1. The facts don’t lie like republicans – President Obama is turning this country around and the repubs can’t stand it. They have been nothing but obstructionists and fear mongers for over 3 years. They can’t stand the fact that what their party created (the worst recession since the great depression – 2 unfunded wars, allowing companies to move out of the US without worrying about American jobs, millions losing their jobs and homes) thank goodness, our President is correcting. They would throw every American who is not a millionaire or billionaire to the wolves and not blink an eye about it! They are all black hearted without souls. Hopefully, they will be eradicated from public office for the next 20 or 30 years after the next couple of elections!

  2. Unemployment rate and new jobs are ambiguous measurements when less people are employed than when he took office.

  3. As a tea-partier, I will admit that this is an effective ad. Which of course, in no way reflects on its being delusional about reality.

  4. “Forward” makes sense, because the GOP slogan is “Backwards”. (In Santorum’s case: Ass-backwards).
