Fitzgerald Starts Off Allegheny County Exec Race With a Bang

Allegheny County Council President Rich Fitzgerald officially began his campaign for County Executive today with show of political force.

Fitzgerald gathered with high-profile supporters at the Allegheny County Courthouse, including U.S. Represenative Mike Doyle, State Senate Minority Leader Jay Costa and a bevy of local officials. Some of Pittsburgh’s biggest labor organizations, such as IBEW Local #5 and Laborers District Council of Western Pennsylvania also endorsed the Council President.

Fitzgerald talked about his experience working with all sides as County Council President.

“I’m proud of my ability to work with business and labor,” said Fitzgerald. “When we work together, there’s nothing we can’t do.”

Yesterday, PoliticsPA was the first to report that Fitzgerald will announce over $750,000 in a campaign report on Monday.

Fitzgerald will be up against County Controller Mark Flaherty for the Democratic nomination. According to Early Returns, Flaherty will report approximately $500,000 in cash on hand on Monday.
