Pennsylvania’s 9 member Democratic Congressional delegation all voiced their support for the impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump in late September and a month later new polling from Franklin & Marshall College shows that that just over more than half of registered voters in the state support the effort.
57% of registered voters in Pennsylvania polled said they support an impeachment inquiry into Trump. 47% of those polled said they “strongly support” in impeachment inquiry effort, while 37% said they “strongly oppose” it.
The results of support and opposition for the impeachment inquiry largely falls along party lines. 84% of Democrats support an impeachment inquiry, while 77% of Republicans oppose it. Those who identified as liberal showed the strongest support for the impeachment inquiry with 97% backing the effort, while those who identified as conservative showed the strongest opposition with 82%.
While Democrats and liberals overwhelmingly support an impeachment inquiry and Republicans and conservatives oppose it; Independents and moderates are mainly siding with the Democrats on the issue. 61% of Independents polled support an impeachment inquiry with two of every three moderates polled, 67%, supporting the effort as well.
This poll surveying 482 registered voters in Pennsylvania, collected data from October 21 to October 27, has a margin of error of +/-6.1%. The poll included 226 Democrats, 188 Republicans, and 68 Independents.
Trump’s Approval Rating
Although a majority of Pennsylvania’s registered voters support an impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump, his approval rating has remained steady over the past couple of months.
35% of registered voters polled believe Trump is doing an “excellent” or “good” job as president, while 54% polled believe he is doing a “poor job.” These numbers are similar to F&M’s polling of President Barack Obama at this point during his first term in office in Pennsylvania. Trump’s approval rating only went down slightly from the previous F&M poll in early August.
68% of Republicans approve Trump’s job performance, while 33% of Independents give him a positive rating, and just 9% of Democrats believe he is doing a good job. The group that supports his job performance the most are those who identify as conservative with 70% approving of his job performance, while only 25% of moderates believe Trump is doing a good job and the weakest numbers coming from those who identify as liberal with only 3% supporting his job performance.
