Former NAACP President Ben Jealous To Headline PA Dems Summer Meeting

Yesterday, the Pennsylvania Democratic Party sent out a press release announcing that former NAACP President Ben Jealous will deliver the keynote address for the state party’s summer meeting in Harrisburg on Saturday, June 8. Jealous, who served as NAACP president from 2008-2013, most recently was the Democratic candidate for Governor in Maryland in 2018, but was unsuccessful in his bid against incumbent moderate GOP Gov. Larry Hogan.

The state committee meeting kicks off at 3 pm on Saturday in the Metro Room at the Harrisburg Hilton. In addition to a speech from Jealous, recently elected state Rep. Bridget Malloy Kosierowski (D-Lackawanna) and state Sen. Pam Iovino (D-Allegheny) will be in attendance.

On Friday, the day before the meeting, the state party is hosting a leadership forum in the Metro Room from 4-11 pm led by state Sen. and Vice Chair of the PA Democratic Party Sharif Street.

Since the previous state committee meeting, both state party endorsed Superior Court candidates, former Allegheny County Councilwoman Amanda Green-Hawkins and Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas Judge Dan McCaffery, were successful in the Democratic primary. On the GOP side, Chester County prosecutor Megan King and Cumberland County Judge Christylee Peck, will also be vying for the two seats in November. King and Peck were also both endorsed by the PAGOP prior to the May primary.

  1. You are very fortunate to hear whatever Ben Jealous has to say. I didn’t vote for him in the primary but did so in the general election with pride. He never received the financial support he needed to reply to the false attacks and organized effort to make Hogan seem like a moderate.Jealous is smart, articulate and has depth of his convictions!

  2. A Democrat who lost a general election in Maryland in a Democratic year. A great role model.

  3. Good program. Friday and Saturday activities with full schedule and new success stories.
