Harper Poll: Pennsylvanians Prefer Jersey Shore, Wouldn’t Miss Philly

philadelphiaHarper Polling released their annual “Our Commonwealth” poll, who shared their views on best vacations spots, and which Pennsylvanians they would most like to see vacate for good.

The Jersey shore is the top vacations spot for Pennsylvanians, according to their survey. 33% of Pennsylvanians choose New Jersey as their go-to weekend getaway, with Maryland’s Eastern shore coming in second with 16% favor.

Of the 500 adults surveyed over a period of two days, native Pennsylvanians have double the loyalty for the Poconos (15%) as non-natives (8%). The majority of Philadelphia and Southeast residents (55%) prefer the shore. South Central Pennsylvanians are equally faithful to the Jersey and Eastern Maryland Shores, with 28% and 24% respectively.

Philadelphia

Most Pennsylvanians would like to see Philadelphians take a more permanent vacation from their home state. When surveyed on which region of Pennsylvania they would most like to see leave the commonwealth in a Brexit-style departure, 29% nominated Philly and the Southeast.

Evidently Philadelphians just do not fit in, even according to themselves. 26% of Philadelphians “vot[ed] Philadelphia and the Southeast off the island,” while all other regions came in about a quarter in favor, except for Scranton/LV who polled with 34% in favor.

Harper Polling surveyed 500 Pennsylvanians through cellphone interviews with live operators and landline interviews conducted using Interactive Voice Response (IVR). The poll took place between on July 10th and July 11th. The margin of error is +/- 4.4%.

  1. That would be a better deal for Philadelphia than it would be for Pennsylvania. I’m in if Delco can leave too.

  2. Delaware beaches are very popular among Pennsylvanians fleeing sky high PA property taxes!
