Levittown attorney and Pennsbury School Board member Jim Prokopiak has secured the Democratic Party nomination for the 140th Legislative District special election on February 13.
The special election will fill the seat vacated by Rep. John Galloway, who resigned to become Magisterial District Judge in Falls Township.
Prokopiak earned unanimous approval from the Bucks County Democratic Committee’s Executive Board. He had previously received the nomination from the local Democratic committee in the district, according to an announcement made Wednesday.
The 49-year-old father of three touted his decade-plus experience in public service, previously serving as a Falls Township supervisor (2002-09) and currently serving on the Bucks County Redevelopment Authority.
“We need an experienced fighter who is willing to fight for the people of Lower Bucks County,” he said in his campaign announcement. “With over a decade of experience in local government, I have a proven record on issues that matter in Lower Bucks County. That is why I am running.”
In a press release, he “pledges to champion legislation that seeks to restore the American dream for all in Lower Bucks County.” He says he “will fight for attainable housing, quality jobs that pay livable wages and benefits, affordable healthcare for all, codifying women’s reproductive rights into the Pennsylvania Constitution, and properly funding public education.”
Prokopiak will face Republican Candace Cabanas in the February 13 special election.
The majority in the Pennsylvania House will be decided in the special election, as the chamber is deadlocked with 101 Democrats and 101 Republicans.
