HD-192: Philly Special Election Heats Up

pa-state-capitol-b175d9a07740ecf3A March special election is sparking interest among Philadelphia politicos.

The resignation of State Rep. Louise Williams Bishop opened up a seat in Harrisburg and a number of potential competitors have already emerged.

Among the candidates are 52nd Ward Chair Steve Jones, Councilman Curtis Jones’ Deputy Chief of Staff Morgan Cephas and community activist Edwin Santana.

The favorite at this point, though, is Lynwood Savage of the 34th Ward.

The 34th is Bob Brady’s ward, he was elected to its committee back in 1968 and became Chair in 1980. Since then, Brady has become a Congressman and Philadelphia Democratic Party Chairman. As a result, Brady has been friends with Savage since he first became involved in politics thirty years ago.

The election is set for March 15th.

The 192nd district is in Northwest Philly and consists of the 34th Ward as well as parts of the 4th and 52nd.

  1. Steven Jones is the best candidate he has been in this community for a number of years. His focus is the all the people.(infants to the seniors) He is the candidate for all the residents of the 192nd.

  2. I’m supporting Jestine Johnson for PA 192 state representative. She’s the only person who’s knocking on doors, showed up to my kids school, always on church and isn’t some career politician. Nothing would change with any of those names mentioned in the article. They’ve been around for 10-30 years. Jestine will involve PA192 in everything she does. I TRUST HER. Not some other politician that’s affiliated with a big name.

  3. Visit http://www.morgancephas.com to find out more about Morgan Cephas and the work she’s done in the 192nd; sometimes its the people you haven’t heard of who are just busy putting in work. You can also find there the contact information for her campaign office, right across from Overbrook high school. It truly is important to know who these candidates are to know who would be the best fit for the 192nd.

  4. No one never mention what have these people done for their community besides hold the titles. WE NEED TO SEE BIO,RESUMES AND VIDEOS AND PEOPLE WHO CAN BACK IT UP. I SAY THAT LEON WILLIAMS WOULD BE THE BETTER PERSON

  5. I have never heard of any of these candidates. What little I have found gives little insight into their philosophy. Representation of hd-192 requires knowledge of the entire district not just the more affluent areas.

  6. Out of all the candidates I think Morgan Cephas is ready day one ! Being a lifetime Wynnefield resident as she is I know she is connected with the community and is fully vested in seeing us prosper ! She will be the breath of fresh air we need ! I support Morgan Cephas

  7. Why is Savage considered a favorite? Does his relationship with the Congressman, Democratic Party Chairman make him a favorite? Give the voters a chance to formulate their own opinions without you publishing such as bias article. I have never heard of Savage, Cephas and Santana until now.

  8. I would support for Lynwood Savage in this race because I think for that Lynwood Savage will win and get to work right away.
