HD60: Frank C. Prazenica Jr. Nominated as Dem Candidate for Special Election

The Democrats have selected their candidate for the state House’s 60th District.

Dr. Frank C. Prazenica Jr., a school director for the Freeport Area School District and president of ARIN Intermediate Unit #28 in Indiana, has been nominated for the upcoming special election in May.

The special election is to fill the vacant seat previously held by state Rep. Jeff Pyle (R-Armstrong), who retired on March 16 citing health issues.

“I’m grateful to everyone who supported my nomination, and I’m looking forward as the candidate and hopefully new state representative for the 60th district,” Prazenica Jr. said to PoliticsPA.

“My goals are simple: to fight for the people of our region and do whatever I can to make life better for the people of our district and state,” Prazenica Jr. continued. “As a former educator, I will do everything possible to bring funding and support to our local community and school districts to help them educate our children for a bright future.”

Prazenica Jr. is a western PA native and has served in a variety of roles in education. Prior to serving as a school board director, he was a teacher, assistant principal, principal, assistant superintendent, and superintendent for numerous Western Pennsylvania school districts. He is also a retired Colonel in the Army and served in the Army Reserve.

Prazenica Jr. is at least one of three candidates for this special election.

Republicans nominated Abby Major, who served as state Pyle’s chief of staff, for the race, while the Libertarian Party has endorsed Drew Hreha, 22, of North Apollo, according to the Tribune Review.

Pyle was first elected to the state House in 2004 to represent the district in western PA. He served as the Chair of the House Liquor Control Committee in his current term and in a previous term served as the chair of the House Gaming Oversight Committee.

Pyle was unopposed in his most recent reelection bid to secure a ninth term in the state House to represent the 60th District, which includes parts of Armstrong, Butler, and Indiana counties.

The special election will take place on May 18, the same day as the Pennsylvania primary.
