Herman Cain Celebrates Part Of Fourth of July In Philadelphia

By: Jared Edgerton, Contributing Writer

Yesterday Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain made a campaign stop in  Philadelphia to speak at a Tea Party rally.

Cain said he opted to go to Philadelphia instead of an early primary state because he wanted to be at the birthplace of the Constitution for July 4th.

At the rally Cain told a crowd pf supporters, “we’re going to alter the control of the United States Senate in 2012, we’re going to alter in 2012 the occupant of the White House.”

Cain’s “common sense, pro-business message,” was warmly-received by the rally attendees. During the early parts of the primary season Cain has enjoyed strong support from Tea Party activists, recently finishing third in an Iowa straw poll of likely caucus goers. Cain attributes the support to his position as a political outsider and successful private sector business experience (he was the CEO of Godfather’s Pizza).

Although support for Cain seems to be gaining momentum the recent resignations of several staff members indicates there is some internal problems with his campaign.

Tina Geoff, Cain’s Iowa organizational director, said she chose to resign because, “[Cain] wasn’t willing to make the commitment to Iowa necessary to win the [Ames] straw poll.” The Ames straw poll is seen as an early test of a candidate’s strength in Iowa and Geoff felt that Cain was not putting in the resources to win the state.

Cain has denied that he is not working hard in Iowa and briefly spoke about the resignations at the rally stating, “they wanted to work somewhere else – I didn’t ask. They said they wanted to leave. I said – God bless you and I wish you well.”

After the rally Cain hosted a family fun night in New Hampshire.
