House GOP Members Start Impeachment Proceedings of Krasner

Larry Krasner

Three Pennsylvania House Republicans have initiated impeachment proceedings against Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner.

Reps. Josh Kail (R-Beaver/Washington), Torren Ecker (R-Adams/Cumberland) and Tim O’Neal (R-Washington) said they are circulating a co-sponsorship memo for supporters of Articles of Impeachment they hope to have completed in the near future.

“We did not arrive at this decision lightly or easily. In fact, we are taking this action after we have taken significant steps to pass legislation that addresses violent crime in Philadelphia by ensuring our current laws are enforced,” said Kail in a press release. “We are starting this process now because the unchecked violent crime in Philadelphia has reached a breaking point due to the willful refusal by District Attorney Krasner to enforce existing laws.”

Ecker said, “Unfortunately for the people of Philadelphia, and the people of Pennsylvania at large, the problem of violent crime in Philadelphia has reached a point that demands this action be taken. Taking this step today and undertaking this process continues what we have been doing and what we need to do to combat violence and crime here in Pennsylvania – ensure the laws already on the books are enforced.”

According to the release, since the beginning of the year, there have been nearly 1,000 people injured or killed by gun violence in Philadelphia with over 220 people murdered in the city.

“Across the country, people are standing up to unchecked and uncontrolled violence and lawlessness allowed because of radical politicians in district attorneys’ offices, like Larry Krasner,” O’Neal said. “Just last week, city businesses said they are thinking of relocating because of spikes in crime. Philadelphia is Pennsylvania’s major economic engine, a tourist attraction, and the birthplace of our freedoms. If unchecked crime is keeping businesses and tourists from visiting and locating in Philadelphia, it impacts Pennsylvania as a whole.”

Earlier this year, Senate President Pro Tempore Jake Corman called for the impeachment of Krasner but did not have the power to begin proceedings, as that authority rests solely with the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.

Once the Articles of Impeachment are introduced, they will then be referred to committee. Once the committee approves them, the Articles of Impeachment can be considered by the full House of Representatives. If approved by the House, there will be a trial in the Senate to determine whether the impeached official should be removed from office.

“Now is the time to have a serious discussion about impeaching Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner,” said Pennsylvania House Majority Leader Kerry Benninghoff (R-Centre/Mifflin). “Philadelphia’s unchecked crime problem is a statewide concern and the District Attorney’s open refusal to enforce current Pennsylvania law in the city is a clear dereliction of his duty to keep Philadelphians and Pennsylvanians safe. I look forward to seeing what these members come up with as they continue with this very important undertaking.”

Krasner has served as the Philadelphia DA since 2018 and won reelection in 2021 with 69 percent of the vote.

  1. Why don’t they take action against the several DA’s in rural PA that were charged and pled to crimes? Like the DA in Somorset County who was charged with rape and had his bond revoked? Oh yeah, becuase he’s also a Republican. What a joke. So much for the GOP being for local control.

  2. You have to wonder who paid off these skinhead-country yokels to attempt this – because it is amply certain they DGAF about crime in Philly, or else they’d let Philly enact its own gun laws. Was it ALEC? Jeff Yass? Putin? Let’s check the campaign coffers and the offshore accounts.

    1. Let Philly enact their own gun laws? hahaha… how ignorant that idea is. what criminal or wannabee criminal is going to obey ANY gun law. they will get them, one way or another.

  3. You better believe this has voter suppression tied into it because 3 Yokels from Cow Manure Borough want to tell the citizens of Philadelphia who their DA can be. Also, it osa ploy to get radical Mastriano votes.

  4. Three young Republicans.

One is a graduate of the law school regularly called the “worst law school in America,” with a correspondingly thin legal resume.

Another is a graduate of Regent, Pat Robertson’s nonsense-teaching, bottom-of-the-barrel law school.

The third is, like the other two, a hick from the sticks, but this one has the best legal resume of the bunch because he did not attend a crappy (or any) law school.

Keep nipping at those ankles and heels, hayseeds.
