Jason Richey Announces 2022 Run for Governor

A western PA Republican has entered the 2022 race for Governor.

On Thursday, Jason Richey, an Allegheny County resident and partner at Pittsburgh’s K&L Gates law firm, formally announced a bid for Pennsylvania’s 2022 gubernatorial race on the KDKA Radio Morning Show with Larry Richert and Kevin Battle

“Growing up in Aliquippa, I witnessed firsthand the impact that economic downturn and lack of opportunity can have on our residents. The consequences of punitive taxation have inhibited growth and destroyed some of Pennsylvania’s hardest-working communities.” Richey said in a press release announcing his candidacy. “For 40 years, too many communities have faced similar struggles as we’ve watched the state’s mismanagement lead to nothing but the growth of more government and the continuous decline of our state’s economy. We need a change now.”

Richey’s campaign website lays out his “Contract with Pennsylvanians,” which is a 12-point plan aimed at launching the “Great Pennsylvania Comeback.”

His Contract with Pennsylvanians calls to “Ensure Liberty & Transparency, Increase Wealth & Create More Jobs, Responsibly Shrink Government, Spending & Property Taxes, Election Integrity, Fund the Police & Ensure Security, Support the Development of All Types of Energy & Manufacturing, Improve Education Choice & Competition, Reduce Health Care Cost & Protect Life, Improve a High-Speed Rail System & Infrastructure, Eliminate the Turnpike Commission, Eliminate the Liquor Control Board, Improve the Election Process & the Judiciary.”

After graduating from Ohio State University’s law school, Richey joined K&L Gates in 1996. In 2005, he became a partner there.

According to his bio on K&L Gates’ website, Richey’s legal practice is “concentrated in the areas of dispute resolution with an emphasis on construction and engineering industry, complex commercial disputes, energy disputes and state and local bid protests.”

This will be Richey’s first run for elected office in Pennsylvania. He believes his candidacy provides Pennsylvania Republicans the opportunity to “reject government as usual, and nominate an outsider for governor who can bring real solutions, real changes that benefit every community in the Commonwealth and can deliver a victory in November.”

While Richey is the first candidate from western PA to formally launch a bid for the office, he’s not the lone candidate in the GOP race.

Former Congressman Lou Barletta formally announced his entrance into the race last week, while Montgomery County Commissioner Joe Gale launched a campaign for Governor in February

Congressman Dan Meuser (R-Luzerne), state Sens. Dan Laughlin (R-Erie) and Doug Mastriano (R-Adams), former U.S. Attorney Bill McSwain, are also reportedly weighing a run for Governor.

  1. 1) Ensure Liberty – Ignore pandemic and let death spread in churches

    2) Increase Wealth & Create More Jobs – Bust the budget with 0% income tax, and try to make it up with sales and consumption taxes (hoping to get money from non PA residents). This will “create tens of thousands of job” .. by magic?

    3) Responsibly Shrink Government, Spending & Property Taxes – Thinks he can reduce the size of the legislature (governor doesn’t have that power). Thinks he can get local townships and school districts to “voluntarily” merge (again, not a governor power). Reduce regulations… which will endanger public safety.

    4) Election Integrity – making it harder for people to vote with photo id and changing voting machine (trying to solve non-existent problems). One sort of good idea: two days of in-person voting and making those days state holidays… which isn’t going to fly with businesses that won’t give workers a few hours off to vote. So, that’s dead on arrival.

    5) Fund the Police & Ensure Security – Increase pay to police.. without having any accountability.

    6) Support the Development of All Types of Energy & Manufacturing – push oil/gas and pretend to support wind/solar/geothermal

    7) Improve Education Choice & Competition – Kill public schools and promote for-profit school “choice”. Nothing about repairing schools.

    8) Reduce Health Care Cost & Protect Life – Anti-abortion. “free market medical insurance competition” – race to the bottom

    9) Improve a High-Speed Rail System & Infrastructure – This is already Biden’s plan. The rural GOP legislators don’t believe in public transportation and high-speed rail

    10) Eliminate the Turnpike Commission – privatize the roads (so invite for greed, bribery for who runs it for profits and kickbacks to politicians)

    11) Eliminate the Liquor Control Board – fire union employees

    12) Improve the Election Process & the Judiciary – have them appointed by Gov and approved by Senate… both of which would be controlled by GOP if he wins.. and he would pick anti-abortion judges.

    1. 13) Get David Diano gainfully employed – so his time can be used productively instead of writing lengthy notes to himself on PAPolitics.

  2. Never trust a guy with 2 first names… trust me and Trump instead. You know what stupidity and lies we will spread!

  3. Never heard of him. Might be the last time we hear of him. Republican nominee should be Bill McSwain. Doug Mastriano should not get very far.

    1. No thanks. As US Attorney McSwain did nothing to push back against Gov Wolf’s edicts.

  4. Barletta’s major legislative accomplishment is financially crushing the City of Hazleton. Look at his Congressional record. It’s so weak! He voted for a huge Omnibus spending package. He’s not a fiscal conservative. He’s an opportunist.

  5. So candidate Richey took a GOP Talking Points memo and changed the tile to Contract with PA? LOL

    1. Isn’t that Contract stuff taken from the “Eye of Newt Gingrich’s”
      playbook?
