Businessman and Vet Launches GOP Campaign in PA7: Kevin Dellicker describes himself as a “common-sense Republican” who would “bring hometown values” to the district.

Scheller Announces Bid for PA7: The former Lehigh County Commissioner and businesswoman who lost to Rep. Susan Wild by just under 4 points in 2020 said that the needs of the district are being “ignored by the political class” and swore to donate her entire congressional salary to Veterans organizations within the district and term limit herself.

‘Pennsylvania election audit gets GOP campaign trail embrace’: The Associated Press reports that “Former President Donald Trump’s false claims of a stolen election have been debunked by the courts, his own Justice Department and scores of recounts. But in the battleground state of Pennsylvania, where Trump lost by 80,000 votes eight months ago, they’re finding new signs of life.”

The Caucus Breaks Down Claims from November Gettysburg Hearing Led by Mastriano: The Caucus revisits the claims made about the 2020 presidential election during a hearing in Gettysburg led by state Sen. Doug Mastriano (R-Franklin) in a story titled, “An annotated guide to the distortions, half-truths and outright lies about the 2020 election in Pennsylvania.” 

‘Pa. Republicans are taking election ‘audits’ seriously. Here’s what to know about their plan’: WHYY reports that “Democrats in Pennsylvania have derided a highly unusual GOP effort to audit counties’ election processes as a fool’s errand, but there are signs that top Republicans, who control the legislature, are taking it seriously.”

‘Pennsylvania’s 2022 Senate candidates just filed new fund-raising reports. Here’s what the money tells us.’: The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that “Republican worries that the party lacks a standout candidate in Pennsylvania’s critical U.S. Senate race may only intensify after the latest round of campaign fund-raising reports filed Thursday.”

‘How to spend $400 billion on home care? Pennsylvania plan to bump pay offers some clues’: The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that “Pennsylvania officials in Harrisburg are mulling pay increases, signing bonuses and student loan forgiveness for the state’s care workers who provide home and community based services — part of a plan to spend an additional $1.2 billion in federal funding for those services that allow seniors and people with disabilities to live independently.”

‘Pa. lawmaker shares her struggles with infertility, aims to help others’: PennLive reports that state Rep. Jennifer O’Mara (D-Delaware) “wants insurers to cover infertility treatments. She’s proposing legislation to mandate such coverage. She has been open about her own challenges in having a baby.”

Shapiro Talks to Vice News: Attorney General Josh Shapiro talked to Vice News about “sham audits.” 

Phillips-Hill Talks to Ortitay on Podcast: State Sen. Kristin Phillips-Hill (R-York) talked with state Rep. Jason Ortitay (R-Washington) in a podcast “to preview upcoming public hearings to review the Dept. of Health’s latest $34 million contract with a Boston-based firm to conduct contact tracing in Pennsylvania over the next year.”

‘After 6 months into job, Herrin chronicles struggles, triumphs of getting laws passed’: The Daily Local News reports that “after six months as state Representative, former West Chester Borough Mayor Dianne Herrin discussed the joys and challenges of serving in Harrisburg.”

‘Pennsylvania lawmakers creating bill to stop cellphone use while driving and mandate police collect race data on traffic stops’: The Allentown Morning Call reports that state Rep. Rosemary Brown (R-Monroe) “is prime sponsor of a bill that would make it illegal for a driver to handle a cellphone, and increase penalties for distracted driving. Philadelphia Democratic Rep. Donna Bullock — mindful of data that shows racial disparities during traffic stops — is working with Brown on an amendment that would expand the bill’s scope. It would make police agencies across the state collect demographic data on traffic stops.” 

‘Pennsylvania jobless rate down slightly, payrolls up in June’: The Associated Press reports that “Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate and labor force shrank slightly in June as payrolls crept up, according to state figures released Friday.”

‘Decrying pandemic ‘profiteering,’ protesters call for a Pa. public health care advocate’: WHYY reports that “dozens of protesters from the activist group Put People First! PA marched in front of the Center City offices of health care providers and health insurers Saturday to call attention to what they describe as “health care profiteering” during a global pandemic.”

‘Indicted Philly lawmakers collect legal defense cash gifts from parking magnates, strip club owners and lobbyists’: Billy Penn reports that Philadelphia City Councilmembers Bobby Henon and Kenyatta Johnson “are raising money to fight federal indictments. Ethics watchdogs say the funds are problematic.”

‘First of many’ protests over teardown of Philly’s only rec center for people with disabilities’: Billy Penn reports that “about 100 people gathered Saturday morning in West Philadelphia to protest the demolition of the city’s only recreation center designed for people with disabilities.”

‘Philly NAACP election signals a fresh start following a controversial president’: The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that “members of the Philadelphia NAACP made it official Saturday: They chose a new president and leadership team, ending a turbulent period in the history of one of the oldest civil rights groups in the city.”

‘U.S. Senate Candidate Arkoosh Talks Union Jobs, Infrastructure With KML Carpenters In Pittsburgh’: WESA reports that “Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Dr. Val Arkoosh came to Pittsburgh Friday to talk with staff members at the Carpenters Pittsburgh Training Center. Arkoosh is touring several parts of the Commonwealth this weekend to talk about infrastructure and health care.”

‘Democratic U.S. Senate Candidate Dr. Val Arkoosh visits Erie to meet with minority business owners’: YourErie.com reports that “Democratic U.S. Senate Candidate Dr. Val Arkoosh came to Erie and had a round table discussion with minority business owners.”

‘State Sen. Doug Mastriano says Republicans need to stick together’: WFMZ reports that state Sen. Doug Mastriano (R-Franklin), a potential candidate for Governor, was the “featured speaker Thursday night for the July meeting of the Berks County Patriots,” and told them that “the biggest challenge facing conservatives right now is a lack of unity.”

‘Marlin Woods To File Papers To Run For Mayor Of Pittsburgh, Giving City Voters 4 Choices’: KDKA reports that “Pittsburgh voters will have four choices for mayor in this November’s election.”

‘Mullery, House minority leader take factfinding tour of region’: The Wilkes-Barre Times Leader reports that state Rep. Gerald Mullery (D-Luzerne) “welcomed House Minority Leader Joanna McClinton to Northeastern Pennsylvania as part of her fact-finding tour of communities throughout the state.”

‘State Rep. Wheatley wants Pa. to spend more to help build up Black communities’: The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that “while some cities move to shore up their finances with COVID-19 relief money, a Democratic state lawmaker who represents Downtown Pittsburgh up through the North Side joined the calls of activists to use the money to build up Black communities that have suffered the most.”

‘Casey highlights plan to combat child food insecurity, serves lunch to kids at Greater Scranton YMCA’: The Scranton Times-Tribune reports that Sen. Bob Casey “distributed bagged lunches to summer day campers Friday at the Greater Scranton YMCA, where he addressed the issue of child food insecurity and policy proposals to reduce it.”

‘Governor, lawmakers survey flood damage firsthand in Bucks County’: KYW Newsradio reports that “state, federal and local officials toured a section of the county on Friday to see the damage firsthand, urging everyone affected to reach out so the area can qualify for state and federal aid.”

‘Pitt faculty unionization vote slated, Pitt says’: The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that “The University of Pittsburgh’s faculty members will be able to vote starting next month on whether they want the United Steelworkers to represent them in contract negotiations.”

‘Pittsburgh’s Cuban community watches protests with ‘cautious optimism’: The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that “the Cuban community in Pittsburgh is small — only about 100 to 150 people. Still, from 1,300 miles away, they were tuned in to one of the largest protest movements in the country’s history, hopeful for Cuba’s future but concerned for family and friends still living there.”

‘Demonstrators rally to support Cuban anti-regime protestors Sunday’: LNP | LancasterOnline reports that “dozens of Cuban Americans gathered in downtown Lancaster on Sunday afternoon to show support to demonstrators in Cuba who are calling for an end to the island nation’s decades-old communist regime.”

‘Carlisle Borough Council approves open container amendment for downtown’: The Carlisle Sentinel reports that “the borough council Thursday approved an ordinance amendment that allows sidewalk cafes downtown to extend beyond the footprint of the restaurant, brewery or distillery provided they have the permission of adjoining businesses. The measure also allows open containers of alcohol on public sidewalks in the downtown district.”

‘Smucker raises $114k in Q2 filing, receiving $4,500 from companies backtracking their vow not to give to election objectors’: LNP | LancasterOnline reports that Rep. Lloyd Smucker (R-Lancaster) “raised $114.181 in the second reporting quarter of 2021.”

‘State Rep. Sturla to host panel on urban development’: LNP | LancasterOnline reports that state Rep. Mike Sturla (D-Lancaster) “will host a House Urban Affairs Committee roundtable on blight remediation Wednesday at the Lancaster Chamber.”

‘Johnstown mulls uses for $32M in American Rescue Plan funding’: The Johnstown Tribune-Democrat reports that “ideas are still being developed about how to spend the more than $30 million in American Rescue Plan funds Johnstown will ultimately receive.”

‘Reading vigil honors late congressman, seeks protection of voting rights’: The Reading Eagle reports that “more than 60 people took part in a Good Trouble Candlelight Vigil for Democracy Saturday in downtown Reading, according to organizers.”

Sands To Host Senate Announcement Rally: Carla Sands, the former U.S. Ambassador to Denmark during President Donald Trump’s administration who is seeking the GOP nomination for U.S. Senate, will be holding her campaign announcement rally on Monday evening in Mechanicsburg.

‘Nedia Ralston appointed to Gaming Control Board’: The Lower Bucks Times reports that “Gov. Tom Wolf announced the appointment of Nedia Ralston to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board. Ralston most recently served as director of the Southeast Regional Office for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The governor also announced that commissioner Denise J. Smyler will become chairwoman following the retirement of David Barasch.”

‘U.S. Rep. Meuser names new chief of staff’: The Wilkes-Barre Times Leader reports that Rep. Dan Meuser (R-Luzerne) “has named Tyler Menzler as his office’s new chief of staff.”

Toomey Comms Director to Work for Amazon: POLITICO reports that “Steve Kelley, communications director for Sen. Pat Toomey’s (R-Pa.), is leaving Capitol Hill to work for Amazon doing public relations work in the Philadelphia area.”

Meuser Scheduler Hired by American Chemistry Council: POLITICO reports that “Claire Mullican has been hired as political mobilization manager at the American Chemistry Council. She most recently was scheduler for Rep. Dan Meuser (R-Pa.).”

  1. Sham audits are a loser for Pa Republicans. Will elect Dems to Senate and Governorship. The mentality that Governorship flips every 8 years was debunked with Corbett loss. Very realistic that Josh Shapiro could win and audit drives up the chances considerably. Loser issue in November.
