Kane Dings GOP Over VAWA

The fight over the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) is long from over, and as it continues to wage within the legislature, politicians across the state are choosing sides.

Last week, the House GOP enraged most Democrats with its approval of a weakened version of VAWA. Kathleen Kane, a former prosecutor who defeated Patrick Murphy in the Attorney General primary, is also a Democrat provoked.

“I am deeply saddened by the House’s rejection of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) and its proposal of a revised version that strips safeguards from many protected groups, including lesbian, gay, and transsexual individuals,” Kane said in an email to supporters Monday.

She further called the proposal “watered down,” and she applauded those Pennsylvania Representatives who challenged the House approval.

“As a former prosecutor, I have seen firsthand the positive impact VAWA has had on the lives of women throughout Pennsylvania,” she said.

“Through VAWA, Pennsylvania’s healthcare professionals, law enforcement officers, and legal advocates are able to effectively coordinate with one another and ensure that those who commit domestic and sexual violence against women are brought to justice.”

From the onset of her campaign, Kane has emphasized being the first female nominee for Pennsylvania Attorney General. She repeatedly made issue of the proposed ultrasound mandate during the primary.

She faces Republican Cumberland County District Attorney Dave Freed in the general election.

  1. The Kane campaign would do well to take a look at the Scott Wagner ad at top of page. Scott Wagner is a Reform Republican and is open to meeting with Kathleen Kane.

  2. The Kane campaign is making a misstake in focusing on legislation. The AG enforces the law, not makes the law.

In my view, Kane campaign can move the vote by making the point that it is time to end One Party Rule in the AG’s office; this is a very powerful meesage to Reform Republicans who voted against Tom Corbett’s US Senatel candidate in crushing numbers.

Then HAMMER ! Dave Freed is Tom Corbett’s Man to cover up Tom Corbett’s cover up of the Penn State Sandusky cover up. FYI Penn State is a $4 BILLION Dollar Big Business Tax Exempt Nonprofit and is a powerful interest group. It “owns” Senate Appropriation Chair Jake Corman who inherited the seat from his dad.

Then HAMMER that there is NO Special Prosecutor statute in Pennsylvania so who will investigate his political and financial patron, the grandfather of his kids, LeRoy Zimmerman of the self-serving Republican Establishment.

Then HAMMER Senate Bonusgate noninvestigation. Jane Orie was so arrogant, in part, because she thought the Senate was insulated from prosecution. It was a DEMOCRAT who developed the facts and the evidence that compelled a jury to find the Senator guilty. Sen.Orie will be in jail before November.

  3. I can only surmise that the Republicans in the legislature think of abuse as something to which they’re entitled without any intervention from government. It doesn’t exactly jibe with their insistence about behavior during pregnancy. A good bumper sticking reflecting their reason would be “Knock ’em up, knock ’em out.” Well, it’s something new, I’ve never thought of the state legislature that way. They must be very proud.

  4. It’s always to nice to read a positive article about a politician, instead of blatant slander towards a candidate. I’m definately considering voting for Kane in the election in November.

  5. There is absolutely no way that VAWA played any role at all in any case that she prosecuted in Lackawanna County.

  6. I’m happy to see Kathleen Kane standing up against the Republican Party…I am looking forward to voting for her in November…she will be a great Attorney General
