WILKES-BARRE, PA – Days after Republican Attorney General and gubernatorial candidate Tom Corbett shockingly said that Pennsylvanians are purposefully remaining unemployed so that they can continue collecting unemployment benefits, Congressman Kanjorski’s campaign calls on Mayor Lou Barletta to denounce those comments.

“Does Barletta agree or disagree with Corbett?  We deserve to know. Mayor Barletta should repudiate Corbett’s comments,” Kanjorski campaign spokesman Ed Mitchell, said.

“Corbett’s comments showed him to be grossly out of touch with the struggles of thousands of Pennsylvanians, and Barletta must denounce or agree with Corbett’s sentiments.”

“Lou Barletta should be denouncing these outrageous comments and demanding an apology for all the unemployed workers in Hazleton — which has the highest unemployment rate of any PA city — not silently standing by Tom Corbett’s deplorable sentiments,” said Mitchell. “The fact that Tom Corbett and Lou Barletta don’t understand how and why Northeastern Pennsylvanians are struggling right now only proves that both are grossly out of touch.”

“Here in Northeastern Pennsylvania, folks are not unemployed by choice.  Tom Corbett and Lou Barletta who think that workers are choosing to be unemployed could not be more wrong, and both represent exactly what Pennsylvanians can’t afford right now.

“Lou Barletta should be demanding an apology from Tom Corbett today.”

  1. “That Scott down there that’s running for governor of Florida,” Mr. Kanjorski said. “Instead of running for governor of Florida, they ought to have him and shoot him. Put him against the wall and shoot him. He stole billions of dollars from the United States government and he’s running for governor of Florida. He’s a millionaire and a billionaire. He’s no hero. He’s a damn crook. It’s just we don’t prosecute big crooks.”
