Kelly-Chaired NRCC Event Nets Record Haul

Mike Kelly portraitLong gone from Democratic lists of potentially vulnerable incumbents, Rep. Mike Kelly (R-Butler) turned his attention to the national congressional picture. The sophomore Congressman helped the National Republican Congressional Committee score a record fundraising haul Wednesday night.

Kelly was one of three co-chairs of the NRCC’s annual March Dinner. The event last night brought in $14.4 million, a record for the committee.

“Chairman [Paul] Ryan, Congressman Kelly and the rest of the co-chairs did yeoman’s work to improve on last year’s figure by more than $2 million,” said Ian Prior, a spokesman for the NRCC.

Kelly’s co-chairs were Reps. Diane Black of Tennessee and Roger Williams of Texas. The three set a goal of $14 million for the evening.

“I was honored when Chairman Walden asked me to co-chair of this year’s Spring Dinner,” Kelly told PoliticsPA. “President Obama has made it clear that his number one political goal is the win back the majority for the Democrats in the House of Representatives, but the House Republican conference is united in preventing a blank check for this Administration’s agenda.”

“Last night, on the first day of Spring, we took a great first step towards making sure House Republicans have the financial resources to compete in Fall of 2014.”

The event featured Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker as its keynote speaker.

Despite the success, the NRCC trails the DCCC in fundraising year-to-date.

Kelly’s own campaign account is… less than robust. He reported just $36,000 on hand at the end of 2012. But he has little apparent cause to worry. His district favors Republicans by an average of 5 points and the DCCC is not presently spending significant resources trying to oust him.

  1. I live in kellys district and the district is stupid for electing him in the first place. He never brings home money for his district. He does nothing for this area once so ever. He is only there for a extra vote in dc as a puppet for the gop.

  2. Jake, you’ve called the people who live in Kelly’s district “stupid” and “ingorant”. Insulting them is not helping your cause.

  3. How surprising–A former used car salesman that brings in big bucks by selling old, broken-down ideas to ignorant people.

“What can I do to get you into this fundraiser? This party hasn’t sold well for years, but it’s a classic!”
