Fresh off his recent endorsements from the PGW and Philadelphia AFL-CIO, City Councilman Kenyatta Johnson is facing scrutiny after seemingly injecting race into the race for the 2nd District Council seat.

In a video posted on “Philadelinquency,” Johnson is heard referring to a ‘plantation mentality’ and rails against opponents who intend to spend millions of dollars to defeat the first-term Councilman.

Although some of the audio is hard to decipher, it is clear that Johnson is the one speaking. During the 46 second video, Johnson states, “That’s the threat. A million dollars. Plantation mentality. White man tells you you can’t run for office. We’re going to take you out.”

Johnson, who is black, is facing a primary challenge from Ori Feibush, who is white.

The Councilman has not commented on the video and his campaign team has also remained quiet other than saying, “Whatever there is to be said about this has been said, and we don’t have anything else to add.”

Tracey Fisher, CEO of Gateway to Re-Entry, the group which organized the event during which Johnson made the comments, said that Johnson did not use the phrase ‘plantation mentality.’ Instead, Fisher responded, “That’s just politics, people slinging, that’s what they do. Nobody got time for that.”

Fisher did not elaborate on what he believes Johnson said in the video.

  1. I’m gonna go cling to my Guns and religion and pray to my shine dedicated to Charlton Heston and Ronald Reagan.

  2. Black politician playing the race card. There’s something new. It’s funny, i remember our President being mad at a friendly prime minister for doing the same thing. Think that outrage would play here? Of course not, its only bad if white peoplpe do it under our political correctness rules. So Kenyatta, stay in the gutter you scumbag. #obamaspostracialamerica #hope&change #sameoldinnercitypolitics
