Koplinski Rolls Out 86 New LG Endorsements

Brad Koplinski
Brad Koplinski

Just in time for state committee.

Earlier today, Harrisburg City Councilman Brad Koplinski released an extensive list of elected and Democratic party officials who have pledged to support his bid for Lieutenant Governor.

“I have known Brad for many years and know that Pennsylvania can trust him to do the right thing,” said Democratic Chair Bob Kefauver. “He is a pragmatic progressive and will make an excellent running mate to defeat Tom Corbett.”

The list spans a wide range of positions and counties, and includes a number of mayors, council members, and county chairmen.

“I am proud and grateful for the support of these distinguished leaders of the Democratic Party,” said Koplinski. “I am especially honored to have the backing of Former Treasurer & Auditor General Hafer, Former Congressman Hoeffel and over one-third of the state’s County Democratic Chairs.”

In a low profile race like the Lt. Governor primary, winning long lists of endorsements is a tactic that helps generate buzz. It’s Koplinski’s second such rollout; the first included over 100 names.

And he’s not the only Lt. Governor candidate in on the endorsement race. Bradford County Commissioner Mark Smith is also seeking the Democratic nomination for LG. His campaign boasted support from southeast Pa. this week.

State Rep. Mary Jo Daley and County Treasurer Jason Salus, both of Montgomery County, co-hosted an event for Smith Sunday in Villanova.

“It was a very successful event and we are thankful for all the support and hard work from our supporters who hosted it,” said Smith campaign manager Andrew Collier.

  1. Never said Bankrupt Brad was stealing money, only that he was endorsed by Reed to get onto council and Brad gladly ran as Reed disciple, didnt hear debt watcher deny that FACT. Koplinski didn’t call for anything till it was over the top obvious and in his best political interest while he considered run for Mayor himself. Koplinski WAS part of Reed ticket, Koplinski did push to declare Bankruptcy even if that Harrisburg move would damage rest of state.Thats truth. You can slam moderate Dems all you want but it doesn’t change those truths and once again you miss the big picture. Koplinski brings bankruptcy fir Harrisburg even at the expense of the entire state and he was picked by Reed, who we seem to agree caused our mess. Perhaps the difference is in the language, you don’t like blue collar steel workers or old school coal miners who grew up as Dems but are feeling kicked around by the likes of a former IRS agent who had a big hand in Harrisburgs bankruptcy. All I ask is for him to explain when he went from gladly part of the Reed team to convinced of Reeds guilt. You have an arrogance that suggest all democrats agree with you and bankrupt Brad. Well you ate right about him being the “only” one. He is just the kind of left wing extremist that will drive Dems in socially conservatives portions of the state into Corbetts loving arms. It may make your progressive ego feel better but if the Governor race is close, Koplinski will be a drag on the ticket.

  2. Brad is the only true Progressive Democrat in the LG RACE. He has a long history of being a person who supports traditional democratic values, which support all people of the Commonwealth. If you want to support Critz because he has been bought and sold by corporations and special interests and has large amountn of money on hand. My answer that is we already have one of those people in Harrisburg. His name is Corbett. I really don’t think we need a special interests Critz who when he ran for Congress turned his back on President Obama and traditional Democratic valid. Critz is not trustwerthy of representing any Democrats for any office in Pennsylvania..

  3. Hey Bar – Get your facts straight. Brad is not tied to Harrisburg’s debt crisis except for being one of the drivers to get Harrisburg out of it and to make sure the people of the city didn’t get stuck with the bill for Reed and company’s sins. Brad started serving on Council in 2008. All of the financial dealings that led to Reeds downfall occurred prior to 2007 (the incinerator was 2003). Brad was the first person to call for an federal/state investigation. Brad led the Council to stop the state’s Act 47 plan that they tried to shove down their throat cause it didn’t solve the city’s problems. Also, Brad and his colleagues helped craft the plan that was approved by the Commonwealth Court to get significant concessions from the creditors. And there are reports that a Federal Grand Jury has convened and AG Kane has said that she is looking into it too. Koplinski had no part in digging the hole, he didnt even live in the city for most of it. He’s done more than his fair share to fix the problems.

  4. That Harrisburg Mayor Stephen Reed endorsed Koplinski is the issue. Harrisburg is buried in debt and possible corruption from Reed who sought to get Koplinski elected to help block criminal charges/ investigation. I’m sure Brads a nice guy, but he is too closely tied to the biggest PA meltdown since three mile Island . Now I don’t agree calling any small town committee member someone from Podunk, but until Bill Peduto of Pittsburgh picks Brad none of this matters more than Brad Koplinski and his close personal association with Harrisburg Mayor Stephen Reed and the cloud of criminal activity that comes with tht partnership

  5. It does look like Koplinski’s outworking his opponents and I guess we’ll see how many he can out-raise. Barbara Hafer can help him with women, and Hoeffel’s well liked by southeast liberals, especially in Philly and Montco. Conklin only won in 2010 because Doris Smith-Ribner split off the southeast liberal vote from Saidel. Lots of borough mayors on this list too– mayors are often important community leaders. People know them and respect their opinions.

  6. Harrisburg Bankrupt under Koplinski, but it was former Mayor Reed who dug the hole. The problem for Bankrupt Brad is that he was a hand picked council candidate by Reed. If he can take some time and explain how he sought Reed’s support and how he had no idea it was so bad when he did then maybe he can win. For now Koplinski is part of the Reed machine that broke the states Capital City and the thumbs up from 14 people whose credentials to endorse begin with “former” won’t change that. Bankrupt Brad Koplinski was endorsed By “Former” Mayor of Harrusburg Stephen Reed….

  7. Radio, Conklin won on Critz’s coatails. He beat Saidel bad in western PA. He can thank the Critz opperation for creating turnout.

  8. Critz raises $2 million and its ovr. BAnkrupt Brad and the young turks Brandon and Mark can just go home. Welcome to the big leagues.

  9. How much is enough to win? Conklin raised $20,000 and beat Saidel who had almost a million. LG is always tough to predict and it is very hard to write off candidates. It is anybody’s race.

  10. When you can’t raise $, it is necessary to change the subject. Koplinski will be lucky if he raises $150,000 for the race (which is nothing statewide). Outside of the rinky-dink events he has attended (where most won’t support him) and the City of Harrisburg, nobody has heard of Koplinski. But when you have nothing else, you have to act as though an endorsement from the former Democratic Vice Chair of Podunk, Pennsylvania matters. It does not matter. Almost all of these people bring 0 votes outside their immediate families.

  11. Endorsements don’t matter, Critz will have the money and be able to push out and beat all of the competition. Nice try Brad, nobody cares.

  12. You have to hate when liberals like Bankrupt Brad and his liebral friends try to win on their anti-gun and baby killing platform.
