PA17: Lamb Leads Q1 Fundraising Race

The Allegheny County Democratic incumbent bests the Trump endorsed Republican challenger in fundraising for the first quarter of 2020 in his reelection bid for the 17th Congressional District.

Rep. Conor Lamb’s (D-Allegheny) campaign raised slightly over $340,000 from the beginning of January to the end of March, while spending just over $260,000 during this time period. His first quarter haul is not as high as the previous quarter when he led the state’s Congressional delegation by raising just over $585,000 in the final three months of 2019

The freshman Democrat has now raised $1.71 million in the election cycle-to-date and entered April with $1.05 million cash on hand

Sean Parnell, a combat veteran and conservative author who has been endorsed by President Donald Trump, raised just under $200,000 from the beginning of January to the end of March, while spending just under $100,000 during this time period. His first quarter haul is not as strong as the previous quarter when he raised just under $270,000 from the time he formally entered the race in late October to the end of December 2019.

Parnell’s campaign has now raised just under $470,000 in the election cycle-to-date and entered April with slightly under $320,000 cash on hand

According to Open Secrets, Lamb raised the second most funds of any Congressional candidate in the state from 2017-2018, only trailing Democrat Scott Wallace who largely self funded his unsuccessful bid in the 1st District. He raised over $9M over the course of both races in 2018.

Lamb’s first race captured national attention when he upset GOP state Rep. Rick Saccone in the special election in the Trump friendly old 18th District. His opponent for the newly drawn 17th District, Rep. Keith Rothfus (R-Allegheny), was a well funded candidate, who raised over $3M during his re-election bid.

The Cook Political Report currently has the seat held by Lamb as “Likely Democrat” for 2020.

Lamb is currently one of three Pennsylvania Democrats being targeted by the NRCC’s initial 2020 list, along with Reps. Matt Cartwright (D-Lackawanna) and Susan Wild (D-Lehigh).
