Lazer to Run in New PA-5

Former Philadelphia deputy mayor for labor Richard Lazer will run for Congress in the new 5th Congressional district.

“I’m here tonight to announce my candidacy for Congress for the 5th District for the working families of all the neighborhoods in this district,” Lazer said accroding to WHYY.

Lazer said he would support a $15 an hour minimum wage, free college, and Medicaid for all.

The new 5th district consists mostly of Delaware county, with small portions of Philadelphia and Montgomery county.

According to WHYY Delaware County Democratic chairman David Landau has said he thinks the district should be represented by someone from Delaware county, which could present an issue for the Philadelphian Lazer.

  1. I worry if he wins a Delaware County Republican will make political hay out of his Philadelphia/Johnny Doc connections.

  2. Even the Delco Dems don’t want him running. Delcodelphia is one step closer to a reality if this guy is elected. Run; Run Far; and Run Fast.

  3. “I support everything being paid for by the government and money for everyone, although I know this is completely unrealistic”, said the candidate with no integrity or respect for voters.

  4. When he stops taking money from IBEW 98 and Jonny Doc, I’ll care about his policies. Delco has had enough patronage machine politics for a lifetime.

  5. He was at the forum of 15 candidates last week, and said he was running. He quit his job so he could run.

I’m not sure what counts as an “announcement” these days.

    1. Particularly with the Supreme Court’s reshuffling, it’s particular weird now.
