Lentz Wins Third Debate Displaying Strong Grasp of Domestic and Foreign Policy

Republican opponent struggles to answer same questions

Springfield, PA – Representative Bryan Lentz, the Democratic nominee for Congress in Pennsylvania’s 7th Congressional District, easily won the third debate of the campaign on Tuesday night at the Suburban Jewish Community Center in Havertown, showing strong command of issues facing our county and Pennsylvania. His far right wing opponent Pat Meehan on the other hand struggled to offer coherent statements and repeatedly contradicted himself in answering questions.

Lentz showed depth on a range of policy issues from his years in the military and as a state representative that will let him hit the ground running as a Congressman. He outlined his ideas to address a range of issues including Middle East peace negotiations, bringing the deficit under control, and investing in infrastructure and education to keep America competitive in the global economy.

Pat Meehan, however, repeatedly stumbled when pressed to detail his policies on the same positions, backtracking repeatedly and was at a loss for words when asked to give details on key policy questions, like what spending he would cut to pay for the tax breaks he wants to give to millionaires. Meehan was also at a loss to explain how he could oppose legislation in Congress designed to make it easier for small business to get access to credit that has been supported by moderate Republicans and multiple business associations.

“Tonight we saw in the clearest terms possible the very real difference between Bryan Lentz and his far right wing Republican opponent Pat Meehan,” said Kevin McTigue, Lentz’s campaign manager. “Bryan Lentz offered clear and concrete policies that will get our deficit under control and help our small businesses get access to the credit they need to create good-paying jobs. Pat Meehan showed he can’t even command the talking points sent to him by the far right wing Republican leadership in Washington DC. His arguments collapsed like a house of cards when even the slightest pressure was applied.”

Lentz has made saving and creating jobs the cornerstone of his campaign for Congress. He is the only candidate with a published plan to get our economy moving again and the only candidate who supports Wall Street reform and the creation of a consumer financial protection agency to ensure another collapse does not happen. Lentz has also pledged to end tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas while his opponent Pat Meehan has signed a pledge that has bound him to oppose legislation that has been introduced to end those tax breaks.

A former Airborne Ranger, criminal prosecutor and Iraq War veteran, Bryan Lentz currently serves in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from Delaware County. He was awarded both the Bronze Star for Service and the War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal for his military service. He lives in Swarthmore with his wife Jennifer and their son Thomas.
