Republicans nominated Abby Major as their candidate for the special election for the state House’s 60th District. Here is the Playbook. 

Levine Confirmed as U.S. Assistant Health Secretary: Sen. Bob Casey voted to confirm Dr. Rachel Levine, while Sen. Pat Toomey voted against her nomination.

HD60: Abby Major Nominated as GOP Candidate in Special Election: Major, who served as state Rep. Jeff Pyle’s chief of staff, received unanimous support from GOP committee members in the five candidate field to earn the party nomination.

Former State Senate Candidate Charged For Role in Capitol Riots: According to the Scranton Times-Tribune, Frank Scavo, who previously was the GOP candidate for the state Senate’s 22nd District in 2020 and the state House’s 114th District in 2019, was charged with four misdemeanors for his “role in the Capitol riots” on January 6. Scavo plans to plead not guilty, according to the Scranton Times-Tribune.

Bucks County Dems Announce Endorsed 2021 Candidates: The Bucks Local News reports that the Bucks County Democratic Committee has announced their endorsed slate of 2021 county candidates.  

Banks Will Remain on Ballot for Harrisburg Mayor’s Race: PennLive reports that a Dauphin County judge ruled in favor of former City Councilman Otto Banks’ residency status, which will allow him to stay on the ballot for the Harrisburg mayoral race. 

PA10: Perry Challenger Talks to York Dispatch: Brian Allen, a psychologist and an Associate Professor of Pediatrics in the Penn State College of Medicine who is challenging Rep. Scott Perry (R-York) in the GOP primary for the 10th Congressional District, talked to the York Dispatch about his campaign. 

Pennsylvania AFL-CIO Endorses Green-Hawkins for PA Commonwealth Court: According to a press release from Amanda Green-Hawkins campaign, the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO has endorsed her candidacy for the PA Commonwealth Court. 

Garrity Endorses Brobson: PA Treasurer Stacy Garrity has endorsed Judge Kevin Brobson’s campaign for the PA Supreme Court, according to a press release. 

New Luzerne County DA Sanguedolce Talks Career and Future With The Times Leader: Sam Sanguedolce, who previously served as the Luzerne County First District Attorney, talked to the Wilkes-Barre Times Leader about his career and future now serving as the Luzerne County DA. 

Wilkes-Barre City Controller Pleads Guilty To Public Drunkenness: The Citizens Voice reports that Wilkes-Barre City Controller Darren Snyder pleaded guilty on Wednesday to a summary offense of public drunkenness, which was issued last Friday.

Yaw’s Fertilizer Bill Passes Through Committee: The Williamsport Sun-Gazette reports that state Sen. Gene Yaw’s (R-Lycoming) bill to “establish best management practices for use of fertilizer to lawns and turf” has been approved by the state Senate Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee. 

LGBTQ Victory Fund Endorses Titus for Erie County Executive: According to a press release from Dr. Tyler Titus’s campaign for Erie County Executive, the LGBTQ Victory Fund endorsed Titus candidacy. Titus was also named to the LGBTQ Victory Fund’s Spotlight List, making Titus the lone Pennsylvanian on their Spotlight List. 

Metzgar Appointed Chairman of House Liquor Control Committee: According to a press release from House Republicans, state Rep. Carl Walker Metzgar (R-Somerset) has been appointed by Speaker Bryan Cutler (R-Lancaster) to serve as chairman of the House Liquor Control Committee for the 2021-2022 legislative session.
