  1. My deepest condolences to the Scranton family upon the death of Mary Scranton, much loved First Lady of Pennsylvania (1962-66). A woman of many interests, she had a vision for possibilities yet to be explored in science. May she rest in peace.

  2. Governor Scranton was one of the last of virtually non-existent breed these days: the progressive Republican. He helped create the community college system in Pennsylvania, which has helped thousands of Pennsylvanians lift themselves up and gain access to higher education. Mary Scranton was no slouch – her efforts on behalf of the Jet Propulsion Lab at Caltech helped push the space program forward.
