McCormick, Casey Spar Over PA County Visits

It can be as simple as stopping at a county fair or attending a county political party event. But getting from Erie to Philadelphia is no mean feat.

From Erie to Easton. From Scranton to Somerset and Philly to Punxsutawney. It can be demanding to traverse the nearly 45,000 square miles in the Commonwealth, but candidates for statewide office have taken the challenge most every even-numbered year to set foot in each of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties.

As Lieutenant Governor, John Fetterman touched all the bases, covering 67 counties in 70 days during his cannabis legalization tour. His 2022 Senate campaign slogan was, “Every county. Every vote,” but the goal of reaching every county was derailed by his stroke.

Now, Republican Senate hopeful Dave McCormick, who says he is completing his 67-county bus tour on Friday with a trip to northeastern Pennsylvania and Pike County, is hoping to make political hay by calling out Sen. Bob Casey Jr. for not visiting all 67 counties as he has claimed previously.

A story in Broad + Liberty stated that Casey, the three-term incumbent from Scranton, was misleading with his claim on a Chester County morning radio show that he visits almost every county across the state every year.

By the author’s count, Casey has only visited 39 of the 67 since January 2023, according to a review of the senator’s website and social media accounts, including Twitter and Facebook. A request for comment by Broad + Liberty to the campaign received no response.

“No wonder this creature of the swamp has lost touch with Pennsylvanians’ concerns over sky-high inflation and the war on energy. If career politician Casey is willing to be dishonest about this, what else is he not telling voters? Another day, another Casey lie,” said Elizabeth Gregory, McCormick for Senate communications director.

Upon further review, though, the call might have to be overturned.

According to sources familiar with the senator’s travel, Casey did actually attend events in every county in the Keystone State in 2022 and all but four in north-central and northwestern PA last year. Apparently, the senator’s team does not post on social media or its website from every location that Casey makes a stop.

Casey has taken pride in his knowledge of the Commonwealth and has even taken to social media to name all 67 counties in Pennsylvania.

  1. Author is clearly carrying water for the Democrat. Casey claimed to visit every county, every year. Your story proves he does not. Shame.
