McCormick Tops Fox News Poll

Former hedge fund CEO David McCormick was the clear favorite in a Fox News survey of GOP voters conducted March 2-6.

McCormick received 24 percent of respondents’ preference versus 15 percent for Mehmet Oz. Kathy Barnette and Jeff Bartos tied for third at nine percent, while Carla Sands finished off the pace at six percent.

There were 31 percent of respondents who indicated that they were still unsure or undecided about a candidate to support.

The poll was conducted under the joint direction of Beacon Research (D) and Shaw & Company Research (R) and includes live interviews with 960 Pennsylvania Republican primary voters. The margin of sampling error is three percent.

It is not all good news for McCormick, as only 22 percent of his backers are certain they will support him come May 17. Nearly twice as many Oz supporters (40%) say they have his back, while 59 percent could change their minds.

“McCormick has a lead and he’s running well across the state,” says Daron Shaw, a professor at the University of Texas who conducts the survey along with Chris Anderson. “But the main feature of the contest right now is that Republican voters have not yet honed in on the candidates.”

In the gubernatorial race, four candidates received double-digit support, led by Lou Barletta (19%) and Doug Mastriano (18%). Dave White and Bill McSwain are close behind at 14 and 11 percent, respectively. Twenty-five percent indicated that they are undecided.

  1. If Fox News lies in their polls like they do with Russian propaganda, McCormick has no chance.

  2. Shapiro will mop the floor with either Mastriano or Barletta. McCormick appears strong on paper but is vulnerable on his past record regarding China. Either Lamb or Fetterman will hammer him with ads in the fall on that front.

  3. Bartos is very good at debating. He mastered the debate against Fetterman for Lt. Gov. It seems this go round none of that will matter. His campaign is struggling.

    1. I mean, he’s a boring establishment Republican. GOP primary voters would prefer a full-fledged Trumper. Most people don’t watch or care about debates.

    2. Oh! Are you saying that Bartos was elected Lt. Gov.? No? Then I don’t think he really did “master” that debate. And being In with the party committeemen doesn’t mean much in a statewide primary. Just ask Conor.

  4. From what the polls state, the United States Senate and the Pennsylvania Gubernatorial elections will be a surprise. As soon as we get past the petition period after March 15, we will know who is in the race and who is not.
