Meehan Finally Comes Out of Hiding: At Least on TV

Springfield, PA – Pat Meehan has finally come out of hiding – at least on television. For the first time this week, the Republican candidate started spending some of his own campaign funds to advertise his campaign on television throughout the region.

Up to this point, Meehan has relied on nearly $1 million in television advertising from outside special interest groups to attack Bryan Lentz, the Democratic nominee for Congress in Pennsylvania’s 7th Congressional District. That includes Americans for Job Security, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the NRCC. News reports have documented that much of that money is difficult to trace, including anonymous corporate donations funneled through Americans for Job Security, and foreign donations that the Chamber is allegedly using to fund its tv ads.

While Meehan is finally appearing in his own television ads, he continues to deny voters the opportunity to meet with him in public as Bryan Lentz has done throughout the campaign. While Lentz has held town halls throughout the District since the beginning of the summer, Meehan has yet to hold an event that is open to the general public to attend.

Meehan has also stepped up his efforts to avoid direct contact with voters in recent weeks, as he backed out of a scheduled debate at the League of Women Voters last night, and refused at the last minute to attend a candidates’ forum at the Upper Merion Senior Center earlier this month.

“It is a responsibility of anybody running for office to meet with voters and answer their questions,” said Bryan Lentz, the Democratic nominee for Congress is Pennsylvania’s 7th Congressional District. “That’s a clear difference between Pat Meehan and me. He’s been hiding, because he believes he doesn’t need to talk to voters and answer their questions. He’s a career politician who’s used to having jobs handed to him.”

Lentz has been reaching out to voters for months, holding a series of town halls open to anybody to attend and visiting businesses throughout Delaware, Chester and Montgomery counties. He will continue to campaign openly throughout Election Day.
