Molesevich Challenges Thompson in Redrawn PA-15

Mike Molesevich

Mike Molesevich, who previously ran for Congress in 2016 losing to Tom Marino, has been certified by the Department of State as the Democratic candidate to challenge Glenn Thompson in the 15th District this fall.

The Lewisburg resident previously served on the Borough Council and also has mayor.

“I am running for the new PA 15th Congressional District to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; and to hold elected officials accountable who do not uphold their oath while in elected office,” Molesevich told the Daily Item. “My goal is to represent the mutual, common and public interests of the citizens and resources of rural PA and the new 15th Congressional District. Not private interests. Not special interests. The interests of We The People.”

The redesigned 15th District covers a large swath of northern and Central Pennsylvania, extending from Snyder County to Tioga County, splitting Lycoming County, and then west through Centre and Clearfield counties and to Clarion county, while spreading across the northern border from Tioga to Warren counties. The district covers all or parts of 18 counties.

Thompson has been a Congressman since 2009 but will represent Snyder and Union counties for the first time. He formerly represented the 5th District, but has represented the 15th District since 2019. Thompson made news earlier in the week when it was revealed that he attended his gay son’s marriage after voting against codifying the right to same-sex marriage three days prior.

Molesevich, who has degrees from Juniata College and Bucknell University, is a business owner, environmental consultant and contractor who provides environmental assessments and remediation for industrial and commercial properties, real estate transactions, mortgages, and regulated facilities.

“Sure, I’m the underdog, but I like to think that the classic American success story is to support the underdog,” Molesevich said to the News-Item. “I’m a candidate who represents mutual and community interests, not special or corporate interests.

“Being of Ukrainian heritage, I want to make sure we continue to support our friends and families in Ukraine from Russian aggression. I believe in a higher minimum wage, and my background in environmental matters will help with energy and crisis,” Molesevich said. “Education is very important to give our children the groundwork and basis for making intelligent decisions. There’s also no need for military-style assault weapons.”
