National Journal: Santorum Plays Race Card Against Obama re: Abortion

Tim Alberta has an interesting piece in the National Journal today about Rick Santorum trying valiantly to indict Obama’s position on abortion on, get this, racial grounds.

“Well, if that human life is not a person, then — I find it almost remarkable for a black man to say, ‘No, we’re going to decide who are people and who are not people,'” Santorum said.

Santorum’s critique stems from the pro-life argument that Roe v. Wade is equivalent to the 1857 decision in Dred Scott v. Stanford, in which the Supreme Court ruled that blacks were not citizens and therefore had no rights under the Constitution.

Needless to say, the response to Santorum’s comments is less likely to relate to Constitutional law and more likely to focus on Santorum’s penchant for outlandish comments.

Not exactly the kind of headlines any candidate for national office likes to see.
