Democrats win big in eastern PA, Republicans makes gains in western PA, while the parties split the statewide court races. Here is the Playbook.

King, McCaffery Lead Superior Court Race: One Democrat and One Republican seem to be the apparent winners for the race after 96% of the vote counted.

Working Families Party Candidate Wins Philly City Council At-Large Seat: Kendra Brooks, who received endorsements from Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Philadelphia City Councilwoman Helen Gym, becomes the first third party candidate to win an at-large seat on the city’s council.

O’Connell Cruises In Allentown Mayoral Race: The interim Mayor coasted to victory over Republican Tim Ramos.

Dems Flip Chesco and Delco: Two years after winning their first seats in Delaware County, the Democrats will represent all five seats on the county council, while Chester County flip the Commissioner and District Attorney seats.

Allegheny County DA: Zappala Fends Off Challenge from Middleman: The longtime Democratic Allegheny County District Attorney fought off a challenge from the left from public defender Lisa Middleman.

Moran Elected Reading Mayor: Moran becomes the first Latino elected to lead the city.

Cognetti Wins Scranton Mayoral Race: The former Scranton School Director who ran as an Independent will serve the rest of Courtright’s term.

GOP Flips Washington, Westmoreland Counties: In both commissioner races in western Pennsylvania, the Republican party is now in the majority in both Washington and Westmoreland counties. 

NYT/Sienna Poll: Trump, Dem Front Runners in Dead Heat: The latest poll shows President Donald Trump locked in a tight race with former Vice President Joe Biden and Sens. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren in Pennsylvania.

Klobuchar Pushes Electability in Philly: The Minnesota Senator stressed the need for the Democrats to have a candidate at the top of the presidential ticket capable of winning the “blue wall” states back from Trump.

Biden Fundraises in Pittsburgh: Former Vice President Joe Biden returned to Pennsylvania on Tuesday to attend a fundraiser in Pittsburgh, but included a surprise visit to Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald’s victory party.

  1. There was a lot of straight party line voting in the Superior Court race but McCaffery edged Green-Hawakins in most counties and King outpolled Peck everywhere but Peck’s Cumberland county. The bellwether of Erie county is about the only county where the candidates order of finish matched the state-wide total. It’s interesting King finished third in her home county of Chester. That county is really moving Dem fast. Geography used to be a bigger factor than party in these state-wide judicial races. That has certainly changed over time.
