NRCC Launches Robocall Alleging that Rep. Critz is “Making a Bad Economy Worse”

A week after targeting U.S. Rep. Jason Altmire for his vote against the Cut, Cap and Balance Act, the National Republican Campaign Committee will launch a robocall critical of U.S. Rep. Mark Critz’s support for economic policies the NRCC believes are “punishing middle class families,” PoliticsPA has learned.

“While some are changing the conversation in Washington to one of spending cuts and economic growth, Mark Critz is part of a group making a bad economy worse,” reads the script of the call, which will reach registered voters in PA-12 starting on Tuesday.  “You feel the disastrous effects of Mark Critz’s policies every day as gas prices go up, your grocery bill gets higher, you see more foreclosure signs pop up in your neighborhood and more Americans feel uneasy about their jobs.”

The robocall is the latest in a long series of NRCC efforts targeting the Johnstown-based Democrat.  Earlier this year, the GOP’s campaign wing unleashed a similar message that sought to portray Critz as responsible for inflated gas prices.

Critz is one of ten House Democrats targeted in Tuesday’s call.  The others are Rep. Tim Bishop of New York, Rep. Leonard Boswell of Iowa, Rep. Lois Capps of California, Rep. Russ Carnahan of Missouri, Rep. Kathy Castor of Florida, Rep. Michael Michaud of Maine, Rep. Collin Peterson of Minnesota, Rep. Nick Rahall of West Virginia., and Rep. John Yarmuth of Kentucky.

“Rep. Critz’s refusal to cut spending and balance our budget is hurting our economy, leaving Southwestern Pennsylvania families with higher prices for everyday items during these tough times,” said NRCC spokesman Tony Mazzola.  “We plan to hold Rep. Critz accountable for his failed tax-and-spend record that is stifling job creation, punishing small business owners and helping only Nancy Pelosi’s big government agenda.”

Here’s the full script of the message:

“Hello, I’m calling from the National Republican Congressional Committee, 320 First St SE, Washington, DC 20003, 202.479.7000, with an important alert about your Congressman Mark Critz. While some are changing the conversation in Washington to one of spending cuts and economic growth, Mark Critz is part of a group making a bad economy worse. You feel the disastrous effects of Mark Critz’s policies every day as gas prices go up, your grocery bill gets higher, you see more foreclosure signs pop up in your neighborhood and more Americans feel uneasy about their jobs. Call Congressman Mark Critz at 202-225-2065 and tell him to stop punishing middle class families. Paid for by the National Republican Congressional Committee. Not authorized by any candidate or candidate’s committee.”
