PA-12 Democratic Primary challenger, Col. John A. Hugya revealed his finance report from Q4, and while it was exponentially better than Q3, he is still in an uphill battle.

Hugya raised $31,050.00 in the fourth quarter of the year. In the third quarter, he posted just $225.

Altogether, he’s raised about $32,000 throughout his campaign. He spent $6,278.41 of it in the fourth quarter, leaving him with a mere $25,496.59 just a few months away from the primary.

He does face another primary contender, who has so far outraised him tremendously. Erin McClelland brought in $22,080 in the third quarter. Her campaign also spent $15,221 over that time and had $71,977 cash on hand before the fourth quarter even began.

Rothfus walloped them both last quarter, raising $381,482.66. This left him with leaving him with $750,650.06 on hand for the race to keep his seat and no announced primary challenger.

Neither McClelland’s nor Rothfus’ reports are yet available online.

Along with Hugya’s experience as a Chief of Staff for Murtha, he is also a decorated Marine who was stationed in Korea during the Korean War. After finishing his service as a Marine, he worked in law enforcement for nearly forty years. He serves on the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission and is an Officer in the Fraternal Order of Police.

He’s running for the seat that belonged to his former boss and this marks his first run for public office.
