PA-11: Rev. Micah Sims Enters Race

Rev. Sims
Rev. Sims

According to Roxbury News, Reverend Micah Sims will attempt to get on the ballot in the 11th Congressional District.*

Sims is a pastor at Bethel A.M.E Church in Harrisburg, and in 2012 he served as state deputy director of President Obama’s campaign and in 2013 was the co-chair of Harrisburg Mayor Eric Papenfuse’s transition team.

He will make the official announcement of his candidacies Friday morning.

Should he make the PA-11 ballot, he would face Andrew Ostrowski, who announced in mid-February.

Rep. Lou Barletta holds the seat and is coming off a sweeping victory in 2012 over Democrat Gene Stilp and was also the beneficiary of favorable redistricting that same year. Although the incumbent only retained 35 percent of his former district, he gained deep red pockets located in the center of the state and lost left-leaning areas in northeast Pa.

PA-11 now includes Carbon (part), Columbia, Cumberland (part), Dauphin (part of Harrisburg), Luzerne (part), Montour, Northumberland (part), Perry (part) and Wyoming Counties.

*Updated to reflect that Sims will only seek PA-11

  1. “If he’s elected in both, what is he going to do?”

There’s a zero % chance he’ll be elected to either.

  2. Rev. Sims announced he is seeking petitions and getting on the ballot in the 11th only….great reporting PoliticsPA

  3. Incredibly selfish of him. If he’s elected in both, what is he going to do? Abandon a seat the day he’s elected?

  4. He will make history! He will be the first candidate to lose two Congressional elections on the same day. Thats if he makes the ballot
