The Fraternal Order of Police is formally backing Brian Fitzpatrick in the PA-8 contest.

The Bucks County and Montgomery County lodges, 53 and 14 respectively, announced the endorsement on Thursday afternoon.

“As a member of the law enforcement community – both as a prosecutor and a FBI agent – I know first-hand the vital importance our police play in keeping our communities safe and appreciate the selfless service they carry out each day,” said Fitzpatrick. “I’m running for Congress because I believe every American family deserves security and opportunity. In townships and boroughs across our district, it’s our local law enforcement officers who work tirelessly to protect those rights. To receive the support of thousands of Bucks and Montgomery county’s finest is humbling.”

“As a former FBI Special Agent, as well as serving as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney, Brian Fitzpatrick has proven his dedication to keeping the citizens of our state and country safe. Brian’s extensive background in law enforcement and expertise has proven that he is committed to serving the people of his district and our country,” said Pennsylvania Fraternal Order of Police President Les Neri. “Brian’s promise to give law enforcement the tools necessary to protect its citizens, desire to protect our borders and vision of everyone working as a team for the good of all Americans are the reasons we stand with great pride in support of Brian Fitzpatrick for Congress.”

Labor unions generally support Democrats but the FOP has been an exception. For instance, the national and local chapters are backing Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.

The 8th Congressional District represents all of Bucks County as well as parts of upper Montgomery County.
