PA-8: Santarsiero Blasts Naughton in New TV Ad (VIDEO)

The Democratic primary in the PA-8 race is getting increasingly personal and combative.

In his latest thirty-second spot, Santarsiero begins by denouncing Naughton for attacking him.

“Shaughnessy Naughton’s dishonest attack on Steve Santarsiero called ‘incendiary’. No wonder she’s been questioned for violating the law,” the narrator states.

The article cited concerns the controversy over direct mail pieces. That episode has become one of a series of arguments between the two campaigns that has spilled over to Twitter.

With the possible exception of the GOP battle in PA-9, this may be the most contentious race of the 2016 primary season.

The rest of the commercial touts the State Representative’s supporters and record, the latter of which the Naughton campaign has been highly critical of.

“The Santarsiero campaign has a serious problem with telling the truth. After spending tens of thousands of dollars on a mailer claiming that he ‘wrote PA’s Gun Safety Law,’ Santarsiero was caught in a lie and admitted to the Allentown Morning Call that his mailer was not true,” Naughton Campaign Manager Erik Polyak said. “Now the campaign claims he passed 54 bills, but as newspapers like the Courier Times, Intelligencer and the Inquirer have reported, he has failed in 54 attempts to get any legislation on the books. These complaints from the Santarsiero campaign are an attempt to change the subject from his own pattern of misleading claims.”

The 8th Congressional District represents all of Bucks County as well as parts of upper Montgomery County.

UPDATE: The Santarsiero campaign sent the following statement to PoliticsPA:

“The newspapers like the Bucks County Courier Times and the Philadelphia Inquirer that the Naughton campaign cites are endorsing Steve Santarsiero because while Naughton’s campaign is busy being accused of violating federal law, Steve has been fighting for greater gun safety, women’s reproductive rights and the working people of Pennsylvania.”

  1. Idiots because Steve is a great democrat the republican majority in the house WON’T let him pass a bill.

  2. Greg every comment you make seems to be about how an impressive woman is too stupid and lacks the substance to run for office. Someone clearly has some insecurities. Is it tough looking down and seeing so little?

  3. Santarsiero and Naughton are both useless. Santarsiero is a Democrat from the Southeast and yet he’s never done anything noteworthy in his 8 years as a state rep. Naughton is a fool who is aiming to ride on Hillary’s coattails this November with no real platform.

  4. Steve is fighting so hard, that he hasn’t passed a single bill during his 7 years in Harrisburg. 0-54

  5. Sadly this is typical for Dems in rudderless Bucks County. A very winnable seat yet the two Dems spend over $2 million slaughtering each other while the Republicans rally around a California transplant who spends only $50k. Is there any wonder why Dems out register Reps by 2 million voters and can’t win a congressional election outside Philly and Pittsburgh? No leadership.

  6. “a proven leader who gets things done…”

but, 0 bills passed after 8 yrs in office
