PA Dems announced Senator Bob Casey, former Missouri Secretary of State Jason Kander and Congressman Matt Cartwright (D-Lackawanna) as the the speakers for its 2017 Fall State Committee Meeting held in Harrisburg on September 8th and 9th.
Kander was elected as Secretary of State in Missouri in 2012. He did not run for a second term in 2016, instead running for U.S. Senate. Kander lost the election narrowly, but he founded Let America Vote in February 2017. The nonprofit works “to fight back against proposals across the country that make it harder for eligible voters to exercise their constitutional right to cast a ballot,” according to his website.
U.S. Sen. Casey was first elected as Pennsylvania Senator in 2006. According to his website, Casey works to promote an honest government, and advocates to secure families’ financial security and children’s futures. Casey is running for re-election in 2018, in what is expected to be one of the most watched races in the country.
Cartwright was elected as representative of Pennsylvania’s 17th Congressional District in 2012. Cartwright has used his time in office to create more than 60 pieces of legislation to help others including seniors, military families, veterans, students, workers, consumers, the middle class and the environment, as stated on his website. Cartwright is the only Pennsylvania Democrat on national Republicans target list for next year.
The dinner and following meeting is the last gathering of statewide Democrats before the November elections for the statewide judicial races.
