PA GOP: Carney Said He Reads The Newspaper During Debates

Carney Admits In Interview That While In Congress, “I go back in the cloakroom and read the newspaper during debates”

HARRISBURG – With Election Day right around the corner, Congressman Chris Carney revealed yesterday that during debates in the U.S. House of Representatives on legislation that impacts millions of Americans, he spends time hanging out in the cloakroom reading the newspaper.“I call on Chris Carney to reveal which pieces of legislation he didn’t feel were important enough to receive his full attention,” PA GOP Spokesman Mike Barley said.  “With a voting record that could be easily mistaken for Nancy Pelosi’s, Chris Carney owes it to his constituents to come clean and reveal which pieces of legislation he didn’t feel were worthy of his time.   Was Chris Carney in the cloakroom reading the newspaper when the House was debating ObamaCare?  The nearly $1 trillion stimulus package?  Or did he just take direction from Nancy Pelosi again and vote for the legislation anyway?

“Chris Carney should be ashamed of himself.  Because of his blind support for Nancy Pelosi’s tax-and-spend agenda, northeastern Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate is in the double digits.  While Chris Carney has a real opportunity to grow our economy, he’s apparently content to sit back, kick up his feet and shirk his duties in Washington, D.C.

“The people of the 10th Congressional District deserve elected officials who will go to Washington, D.C. and fight for them in Congress, not politicians who will blindly support the extreme liberal agenda of a Speaker of the House from San Francisco.  The people of the 10th Congressional District work incredibly hard and they demand the same from their elected officials.  If Chris Carney isn’t willing to do the job, it’s time to give Tom Marino a shot.”During an Editorial Board meeting with the Wilkes Barre Times Leader yesterday, Congressman Chris Carney admitted that he doesn’t always listen to debates on the House floor.

“I go back in the cloakroom and read the newspaper during debates.”

Carney did not specify which pieces of legislation were not as important as reading the paper, but the comment has drawn increased scrutiny into a voting record that has supported Nancy Pelosi’s liberal policies more than 91% of the time.
