PA-Gov: College Republicans Release “Say Yes to Tom Corbett” Ad (VIDEO)

The College Republican National Committee released a new ad today, one that attempts to attract female voters, a demographic that tends to largely support Democrats.

The one minute web video, titled “Say Yes to Tom Corbett”, features a young woman participating in “Say Yes to the Candidate”, a play on the television series, Say Yes to the Dress.

Brittany, a young undecided female voter, must choose between two ‘dresses’, one dress is ‘The Tom Corbett’, and the other dress ‘The Tom Wolf’. Brittany touts her support of Tom Corbett, but her mother disagrees and says she prefers Tom Wolf.

The dress saleswoman points out that the Tom Wolf dress comes with increased taxes, which has been a focus of the Governor’s campaign as of late.

In the end, Brittany chooses Tom Corbett, stating the decision is her own, and that she “sees a brighter future with Tom Corbett.” The ad closes with the group of women celebrating Brittany’s choice of Corbett.

The College Republican National Committee launched similar ads for Rick Scott in Florida, Rick Snyder in Michigan, and Bruce Rauner in Illinois.

Not everyone is happy about the ad, though.

The Democratic Governors Association blasted the ads, saying they are “further evidence” that the Republican candidates “still have no idea how to communicate with women voters.”

Alex Smith, the first female President of the College Republican Committee, says, “We’re happy that the DGA feels so threatened by our ads that they are spending precious hours 34 days before the election to share our video that advocates for the defeat of their candidates.”

Smith pointed out that the videos were written and produced in-house by her and the committee’s four other female staffers.

Whether or not the ad is effective or offensive may depend on the eye of the beholder. In February, however, Say Yes to the Dress scored its second best opening ever among women 18-34 and women 18-49. So if the ad actually can connect to those voters, it may just have been worth it.

  2. Wow. I’m really surprised by the response from the first female president of the College Republicans to the criticisms of the ad. She should have just told all of us that if we don’t like the ad, we should just close our eyes and not watch it. She’s clearly not too good at spinning.

  3. obsever you is way wrong cuz goevnor corbit aint never done nothing bad to woman and he been a grate goevnoer for everbody include man and woman and that why he gonna get relected,

  4. Dems keep playing and spreading this video because it helps them WAY more than it helps One-Term Tommie! Who thought up this ridiculous effort? A couple of Frat Bros from Texas A&M? Certainly NOT any woman with half a brain! Of course, any woman who would vote fot the party that hates, patronizes and shackles woman does not have half a brain, so maybe that IS their target demographic? This kind of stupidity is why Repubs start out down by 20 points among women voters, and it goes downhill from there depending on how miscogynistic the male candidate is (ahem, Tom Corbett, ahem).
