PA-Gov: Sabato Moves Gubernatorial Race Rating to “Safe Democratic”

Tom-WolfIn the latest edition of the “Larry Sabato’s Crystal Ball”, the political prognosticators are shifting the PA-Gov race from “Likely Democratic” to “Safe Democratic.”

This change comes after several polls have shown Democratic nominee Tom Wolf holding onto his lead over GOP Governor Tom Corbett.

“Speaking of other Democratic takeover opportunities, the inevitable has arrived,” Sabato authors Kyle Kondik and Geoffrey Skelley write. “We’ve decided to move the Pennsylvania governor’s race from Likely Democratic to Safe Democratic.”

“The best poll Gov. Tom Corbett (R) has seen was a Republican survey two weeks ago that found him down nine points, which only reinforces our strong feeling that businessman Tom Wolf (D) will be the Keystone State’s next governor,” they concluded. “More than a year ago we identified Corbett as the most vulnerable incumbent governor in the nation, and nothing much has changed.”

Other gubernatorial races that Sabato considers “Safe Democratic” are: California, New York, Oregon and Vermont. All of which are deep blue states. Only four races are predicted to switch parties and Pennsylvania is the only one of the four to be considered “safe” to flip.
