PA-Gov: Wolf Creates Department of Transformation

wolfGovernor Tom Wolf announced today the creation of the Office of Transformation, Innovation, Management and Efficiency.

Gov. Wolf revealed he is creating the new office through executive order at his first gubernatorial press conference.

Formerly just the Office of Innovation, the new agency will be tasked with finding $150 million in savings for the 2015-2016 fiscal year.

“Pennsylvania is facing a $2.3 billion deficit and tackling that starts with state government finding innovative ways to increase efficiencies and streamline management,” said Governor Wolf. “As a business owner, I had to constantly look for both savings through efficiency and ways to be innovative to better serve my customers. I did this, first and foremost, by getting input from my employees, which is exactly what we will now do in state government. Every day, workers on the front lines see inefficiencies and ways to improve efforts. If this is done right, the Commonwealth will see an immediate savings of $150 million and a long-term savings of hundreds of millions.”

“In the coming weeks, we will announce even more plans for specific savings and innovations that will help us face our dire fiscal situation head-on,” Wolf continued. “These plans will return money to the taxpayers, help reduce our deficit, and more efficiently deliver services to Pennsylvania’s hardworking taxpayers.”

The executive order also creates a steering committee, headed by the Secretary of Administration, to oversee the cost-cutting efforts.

  1. If you want transformation, you need to look no further than the legislature. Reduce the legislature from 253 to 50, one legislator per senatorial district period!!

  2. Will – it’s better to be thought a fool and remain silent than to open one’s mouth and remove all doubt.

  3. Leave it to a dem to expand government to spend more money and say they are going to save money with a small net gain. What is the real cost benefit going to be?

  4. I think we should look for international partners to increase productivity while promoting efficiency. That will bring more money in while improving our services.
